Please help! I have a 1 yr old speckled Sussex. Had her for 3 weeks or so. She seemed fine, super friendly. But saw her alone and fluffed, closing her eyes, with distended crop that feels like there’s a firm ball inside.
Took her to the vet, she doesn’t really know but says it’s probably a digestive thing. Ruled out cloaca issues. She’s super super thin. Like she’s been starving. Her sister seems perfectly normal. She’s in my warm laundry room now. She seems hungry and drinks a lot. But she keeps regurgitating the fluids. Vet gave her metaclopramide. And I’m giving her hen boost, poultry cell, cooked egg, and her pellets in a wet mash with oyster shell and grit available. Her poop is scant and looks like dark dirt with water.

Assuming this may be an impacted crop, here's the two best articles about crop issues on BYC.

To save the reading for later, here's quoting one part of the first one:

"Treatment for impacted crop
I use coconut oil for the ease in administering it. When chilled, it is solid and easy to break into small chunks and slip into the beak of the patient without creating a huge mess or getting oil into the airway. You want to measure two teaspoons for an adult chicken and one teaspoon for a baby chick.

After getting the oil into the patient, you want to massage the crop gently in a circular and slightly upward motion. This will direct the contents toward the crop "drain". Massage for five to ten minutes. If the crop refuses to empty, repeat the oil and massage again in 30 minutes. If the crop still refuses to empty, then give a stool softener docusate sodium. Do not use a laxative as it would cause cramping and is too harsh for a chicken. Wait 30 minutes and massage the crop. The crop should empty. Add more oil if it doesn't and massage again. This should do it."
