Concerning 'squatting' behavior

Ah yes, I was a bit disconcerted when I first saw this with my girls. I have three that will squat for me, especially if I walk up to them unexpectedly. It's quite amusing actually, and I always give 'em a little pat so they know I'm paying attention. Makes me feel pretty important haha!

The first time Dora, one of my black sex linked hens did this for the first time she was sitting on my lap! Talk about being startled. I was like "what the..."? That was maybe a month ago and she started laying eggs weekend before last. I figured she was getting ready to lay eggs as my lovebird used to do this to me when she was getting ready to lay a clutch. It's so sweet.

Every time I open the gate to their run, they all want out to free-range on the lawn for a little while..

No problem there, but two or three of 'em see me holding the gate, squat down and cause a big traffic jam in the doorway....too funny !!

Stella laid her first egg today! A little light brown one... I'm so proud!
Thanks again for all of your help. I'm away at college now, but sent the word back home to the family, they will be sure to acknowledge her squat!
