concrete and chickens

OK I am not new to chickens, probably been 12 years since I started. My story...the first of the year I got rid of all my birds due to increased predators, limited free ranging time and peens that needed repair and expanding. I had intentions of tearing all 3 peens and coops down. Flash forward, a friend offer me a pair of 2 month old English game birds.. I figure 2 birds is enough for a hobby. A snake gets my little roo...so i go out and buy 2 mystery bantams from feed store to keep hen company, but they are to small yet to go in pen, so they are in garage in large cage, in the mean time snake get little hen.

Now I'm thinking of building a new somewhat smaller pen and house just off my patio with a concrete run and completely covered in hardware clothe, bad idea, good idea. I plan on keeping bottom covered in wood chips.

What do you think

I think concrete is a good idea because it keeps digging predators out and you can clean and disinfect the floor if you run into a disease that go through your coops

I built my coop in my garage. Concrete floors. I like it. I was able to completely scrub down the coop floor this summer. Cleaned up great!

I totally agree with responses above. My coop is in my garden shed and has concrete floors. Very easy to sweep out daily, and also scrub out twice a week!

Thanx, for the replies, i have never had a problem with predators digging in, all my old pens have wire out about 3 ft on the ground, now covered in grass and all pens had tops...my only problem is SNAKES. If I am gonna keep some chickens Its go to be snake proof.

I have a pen we set up on a pre-existing concrete slab. I bed it heavily with shavings and a deep liter type bedding, even though it's not on dirt. Only problem is a lack of drainage, it floods sometimes.
