YAYY! The chicken's turtle pen is sturdily made with hardware cloth and 2X4s and 1X4's (no way are any predators going through the fence!). I will probably go with the pavers around all the sides, even the ones that are by the fences, per y'all's suggestions. So now it's on to planning what kind of little henhouse goes in the chicken pen.
Nugget, Joan Jett, Neko, and Penguin (the chicks) are getting so big already! Seems like yesterday that Penguin (the Black Australorp [love that word, for some reason] was the same size as Neko, the Red Star -- but now Penguin's much bigger. Only Neko and Joan Jett leap onto our arms when we change the water/feed, etc. They just want to get out and sit on us (of course, that I usually feed them directly from our 'feeding spoon" when they do that) probably doesnt dissuade them from the habit! But these are pets/egg-layers, not meat hens, so guess that's ok . . . . (At least we hope these four are all hens -- it's illegal to have roosters in Boulder, CO!)
Thank y'all for your great suggestions!;
I always think of things that will make life harder for me, and it's good to get some "WHOA" feedback with alternatives! I really don't need to be pouring concrete, etc., and can make it look nice/predator-proof without having round concrete samples/PVC pipes there. I have lots of pavers around, and can get more at the ReSource Yard here in Boulder!
