Concrete floor coops

I used sand on my concrete floor... never once have I regretted it! I used a litter scoop to clean up every day/ or every other day. I like to keep it clean.

Very nice! What will you seal the cracks with?

Probably just silicone. Luckily they are not terrible.

I cannot WAIT for them to get their cute butts out there! Sand sounds like a dream compared to pine shavings.

pine shaving you would have to do a deep litter method.. I don't like the idea of having to empty the whole coop out every 6 months..

Neither do I! I CANNOT see myself out there in the dead of winter trying to get all of that out of there. Sand just seems so much better.

Our coop was built on an old shed foundation, we put a layer of sandbox sand to keep it from hurting the chicken's feet, then we put the pine shavings on top of that...We don't generally have issues with water or mice, and the concrete floor keeps digging predators out well.

my husband built a transition coop a few years ago we have a lot of problems with mice since we added that coop would sand help to keep the mice down? also sounds like it would be much easier to clean as of now i have to rake and something shovel the coop to get them clean

Our coop has a cement floor, no drain. The walls and ceiling are sheathed in plywood with trim boards along the corners. Any gaps were caulked. Nothing can get in. We have pine shaving on the floor and plan to sweep them up when needed.
