Hi, so after the mink dug tunnels and decimated my flock the past two winters, we put a mesh floor in over the dirt floor. This year, rats moved in. I filled all the tunnels by scrubbing sand down through the mesh, but the following day the tunnels were back. This is making for some precarious footwork navigating the coop now, with one wrong step (a few now, actually) snapping the 1/4" mesh thereby defeating its purpose altogether.
My question is, has anyone put in a quickset concrete in their coops and how long did you keep the birds out for? A quick search turned up nothing on potential off-gasing hazards, and I have nowhere else to put my birds if they need to be out of there for a few days.
As for the rats, I'm leaving them alone. I expect the mink will return this winter, and if he has enough rodents to feast on he'll be less inclined to make a new way into my coop. Basically, for the cost of the feed the chickens waste anyway, they are being my buffer.
