Confession: I don't EVER want another broody hen!

jasonm11, you mght consider putting her in a cage with nothing but food and water for a few to several day. No nesting materials at all. Sometimes that helps.

Please don't take this as mean, but I'm pretty sure you meant to say Australorp as the breed. Assalorp is not a recognized breed.

I recognize that plenty of "peep"le fall in the Assalorp breed

I don't know about "should," but I do believe it is natural for them to stay on the nest the last few days without getting up at all. Kinda their version of lockdown, I guess.

My last broody actually gained weight while brooding, as far as I could tell. For sure she would eat like a little pig, anything I held under her beak while on the nest. And I know she got up at least twice a day. She hatched all 7 eggs, too.

Sure you want another broody. You just want one that's a little better at it......

You are correct, but mine is an assalorp. She is always a pain, I recognize her as such and i'm not gonna breed her.

Only kidding, my spelling is not the bestestest

Ah, that must be what mine is, the one who kills her chicks as they hatch. The other two must be Australorps, then.
