Confession time!

I have 30 chickens now and can tell them all apart except 3 of my Buff Silkies. They are all the same size and look exactly alike! I will confess that I have 26 cats too and I know each of their names, cries, meows, birthdays and personalities. Perhaps I need more of a life? Lol

I can tell most of mine apart because of all the breeds and some characteristics like this. But only one has a name.

A few distinctive ones who are in no danger of becoming meat birds, get names, the rest all answer to Chook or Snack, so I don't bother.

One SLW pick on a spot on her back so even though we don't have a roo anymore she always has to have a saddle on. We call her the Caped Crusader.

I have 5 RIR that are a week old today

I can pick only one out of the lineup and that's my gracie. she doesn't mind being held and falls asleep in my lap and eats her feed out of my hand. they all look slightly different. as they grow and age i hope they don't become unrecognizable to me, I have names all picked out but gracie is the only one that i can identify at the moment

All 10 of my BR's are named Nancy. Yep, they're all a bunch of Nancy's. LOL

None of my SLW's are named either, except Clyde, they roo. My GLW's are all banded, 2,3,4.

We have named all of ours and other people ask us how we keep them straight.

I have one of each breed mostly and if I have several of one breed (like Cochins) they are all different colors, so it is rather easy to remember the names. I try not to name most of the chicks/juvies until they are around 4 months old. Just in case they don't make it for some reason or have to be sold.

I have names for most of mine but the RIRs just have the names of redheaded stars -- Lucy, Rita; oh and LRH (Little Red Hen)!

My BRs are fairly easy to tell apart as one has no third toenail, her name is Oprah, one is Latifah and the other is Connie (Condoleeza)!

Some are named for friends, Sharon, Kay and Jennifer and some are named for their coloring -- Coffee and Smudge, Buffie and darker Buffie; Some are named as a pair, Ted and Richard, after some crazy friends we have that are never apart....

Some have Spanish names, Prieta (dark one); one is named Lucky because she escaped from the dog....the roos are Fred the Second and Julio...

Now the silkies don't have names because I can't tell them apart. Oh one silkie mix is Barbie, my BF named her after me

.

My sister gave me a silver laced wyandotte named HeyChickie...the gold laced wys are Dot and Doris....

I have more chickens than I realized. I just purchased a lakenvelder......I'll have to think of a nice German name like Ursula...yes, I think I'll name her that....

And yes, I've named them and then forgot the name the next day.....whew! Are we crazy or what -- I think I've been inhaling too many fumes in the hen house.....
