Confessions of a City Slicker

I am a full time stay at home mom lol. I could have watched anytime. My kids are off for spring break though so they are enjoying watching. We just watched our first baby pop out of the shell. It was a thousand times more amazing than any youtube video i watched while I was waiting for them to hatch. Just wow.

We watched the third one come out just now. A fourth was making good progress but has stopped...hopefully just resting. Many of the rest of them are pipped.

Sometimes it's fast from pip to zip to hatch...but sometimes it can take up to 24 hours.
Lessons in both wonder and patience!

We have 8 chicks now. There are 16 left in the incubator.

we ended up with 15 chicks. 8 of 9 for my mystery farmer's market eggs and only 7 out of 15 Ameraucana eggs. Bummer. I'm going to toss them tonight. It's been well over 24 ours since the last chick hatched and the rest of the eggs are goners I'm sure. Our chicks are lovely and adorable and we're smitten :)

My kids are having a great time watching the chicks. My 10 year old has unexpected emerged as quite the chicken whisperer. He will sit on a chair with his 2 favorites cupped in his hand for ages and just let them sleep like that.

We're also having great fun guessing who is going to be girls and who will be boys. It'll be interesting to see when they get bigger!
