Confessions of a first time nervous wreck

Let us know how they do! I sure could use some good news and cute pics right now. Perhaps this wouldn't bother me so much if I didn't have lots of other things going on right now like DH having back surgery (on the day I set the eggs, Tuesday) and the boys coming down with a small stomach bug.

I hear you - I have my doubts as well. What makes it worse is my eggs are Welsummers and Marans so Candling is useless. With the Welsummers I can see just enough to think nothing is going on when in reality I just can't see much. At least with the Marans you have no choice but to wait and see. I did finally breakdown today and ordered the Brinsea Spot Check Thermometer. Supposedly 10-20 times more accurate than other digitals and within .2º +/-.
We all need to keep the faith!

Most of mine are Marans, too. The Bev Davis line is impossible, and I could very faintly see a darker spot in the yolk of the Gene C1 line eggs. I could see my own Red Star eggs, and the few Blue Orpingtons I got in the mail don't seem to be doing anything. They were badly shaken, though. 2 out of 5 eggs broken.

On a happy note, the digital is reading 101-101.5 now everywhere I put it. I should have taken those GD mercury ones out 3 days ago, they've been keeping me awake at night for nothing.

Does GD make black labradors? I am pretty sure that is who made my 18 month old, 86 pound puppy who decided to eat my BRAND new Chicken Health Handbook I just got from Amazon. I have been looking for the stamp/tag on his forhead. but cannot seem to find it. He is good with chickens, so for tonight he lives to see another day.

Check in the ear I know mine was made by GD. 2.5 y/o Dudley lad who thinks hes a moose but as small as a mouse. Eats everything he can find. I'm worried about my poor incubator once he sniffs out those eggs.

Trying to not derail this thread but if you take that hole and make it 32" long and 18" tall and switch the dog to a chocolate lab thats what I came home to a few years back, oh yea the next day she ate the entire corner off a kitchen cabinet (door and the cabinet itself). Luckily those were the only 2 times she destroyed things in the house. Definitely a "GD" brand Lab!

There's a book titled 'The Fourth Hand' by John Irving that features a Lab prone to what it's owner fondly calls "dietary indiscretions". Classic Lab trait, it's quite the apt phrase. LOL
