Hi,
Could you folks please confirm that these 3 Buff sussex are Cockerels, Going by their combs and the fact two of them were sizing each other up plus they are taller than the other 3, I am pretty sure they are indeed cockerels but i thought I would double check with you. We bought 6 at 4 weeks old and they are now 7 weeks old and it seems we have 3 girls and 3 boys. We also bought 2 buff orpingtons which are girls.

P.S
This is my first post so the images might not show, if someone could do the honours I would be grateful . Thankyou

Those are gorgeous birds! Those combs are very suspicious. I'm sure someone else who is more familiar with that breed will chime in!

I see 2 for sure, but the comb suggests they are Wyandotte's and not Sussex. Sussex's have single combs, the chicks you have are rose combs.

They could be a Sussex/Wyandotte mix?

Hi,

Thankyou for the responses, We bought them from a local auction for £1 each and they were sold as buff sussex but if they are indeed a different breed it would be nice to know. We do have some light sussex which are now about 13 months old and the large one is the boss.

If you need more pictures I can try and get all three in the same spot.

These pictures might help

These are our other chickens and the one with the green tint lays a green egg.

We now have to figure out which cockerel to keep.
Thank you so much for all your help and I am really glad I found a great forum with lots of helpful people.
