Confirming suspicions: Did Ideal mix up my order? Pic

That's what I thought, but I've never tried sexing chickens. Thanks

That is true, if it pokes out it is a boy, BUT, it is not always easy to get to that point. During breeding season it is a little easier, but when it is not breeding season or when they are young, it is harder to get anything to pop out! I have tried to vent sex and have gotten a few wrong because they were "shy" about it and the books say you need to be careful as you can hurt them by pushing to hard, etc.

I have some pilgrim goslings, 2 pair, they were hatched March 29, I will try to get pics of them. Question though, my girls had dark beaks and legs and my boys had orange beaks and legs when they arrived, what did yours have?

Well that is a good sign. My girls are dark grey and my boys have very light down. They are starting to feather in white on their backs already and the girls grey. The girls had dark beaks and legs and the boys had pale orange legs and beaks. Mine came from Metzers though and they are known for having very nice stock, so not sure how Ideals birds will compare. I ordered geese from Ideal years ago. They screwed up my order too, sending my too many of one breed, not enough of another. Didn't mark them like they said they would and we couldn't get anyone on the phone that had a clue what they should look like. It was a mess. I had ordered a trio and a friend had ordered a pair, she ended up with a trio, I ended up with a pair and a dog got one of those. The surviving female is very small compared to others of her breed from Metzers and Holderreads, but healthy and sweet.

Ideal has confirmed that they are boys and has offered to reship my order or refund my money. I only wanted two geese and I've already bonded to these. Is there any problem with keeping just a couple of males?

That is a hard decision.
I think I would just take the refund and keep the two males.
But what is just 2 more? Then in the spring you will have goslings.

Goslings! I say I want only two, and you're encouraging getting more so I can have goslings!

Honestly, you have no idea how much I restrained myself when I went and bought two instead of the dozens I wanted. I know if I take the two instead of the refund, it'll be the thin end of the wedge.

So . . . no problems with just males? I didn't know if they'd go crazy without a mate and start chasing my chickens around, instead.

I haven't been on in a week and saw this post . I received Pilgrim goslings around the same time as the original poster. Out of the 7 females I received 3 were the dark grey coloring as a Pilgrim female should be. The other 4 are whitish grey and have now started to turn darker as they have gotten older. I will try and grab some pics for you ! I plan to only keep the dark grey females to strengthen the coloring genes for auto sexing the Pilgrims in the future. I currently have Cleo (Cleopatra) a Pilgrim female who started sitting last week so I am hoping for stronger colors in her babies.

Edited to add: Don't worry about keeping both males. I have 5 with 3 females and they get along fine; each knows his place in the pecking order.2 have bonded to my 2 Sebastopol females
