a half grown coyote is stalking my 9 birds recently. no luck trapping him or shooting him yet. hubby declares he's gotten a donkey to keep in the run to keep coyote away. i don't want a donkey in the run. he'd be unhappy by himself, a danger to my dogs if he got the chance, & completely upset the harmonious world my chickens have.
grrrr.

i would continue to try to kill the coyote. they can be tough to kill too. i hunt in the woods and i think surprisingly the coyote may be the smartest animal in the woods. its sly quiet and sneaky so it will easily get one of your chickens. just be aware and have the rifle ready!!! try putting out rotten meat or a scream call to draw him in and then pop him. good luck to you and your girls

The donkey would definitely keep the coyote away. We had a donkey that didnt mind the dogs but if something like a fox or coyote got in the pen it went crazy. But as said before the easiest thing to do would be to bait it in or use a predator call and just shoot it when it comes. Good luck.

I don't know whether or not the donkey will chase off coyotes, or kill your dogs and kill your chickens. But I can guarantee, your neighbors will hate you for the gawdawful loud noise that can be heard for miles. Donkeys start at sunrise and bray all day long. You think neighbors hate dogs that bark all day? You ain't seen nothing until you'll seen neighbors who have to live around a screaming donkey.

I hope your husband got you some earplugs to go with that donkey.

My donkey/ donkeys never brayed all day long, but did bray sometimes when we cam in from town as if to say hello.

I live way out in the country and there are several donkeys i hear in the distance at different places and i have never heard them bray all the time, just once in a while , that is the only way i new there were any around
