Conflicting information.

When it comes to incubating eggs I think the ONLY general consensus you are going to find is that eggs should be incubated between 99-100 degrees Fahrenheit (or equivalent Celsius) with 99.5 being about perfect IF you can measure it accurately.

Using egg cartons or just laying them on their sides, humidity at any given point in the cycle, and everything else is quite debatable. The humidity you just have to experiment to find the one that works best for you in your general climate and specific micro-climate. The egg carton or on-the-side is purely personal choice. I much prefer the egg carton method myself.

I think everyone needs to find what works best for them....Me, I'll never go back to hatching without using cartons....I have much better hatches with them than without them. I agree tho that it's the first 18 days that make or break a hatch...not the last 3.

Even though the cartons don't work well for me, finding what works best for YOU is the way to go. I have said that so many times, I am glad to see someone else say the same thing.

I've got 3 dozen in the bator now & another dozen due to arrive today (staggered hatch).

I have always used cartons & have always had poor hatch rates. BUT - my hatch rates are due to my home made incubator & the crazy amount of airflow I had.

What I will do to test this theory is leave half of my eggs in the carton & let the other half lay. Then I can count the total number of each that hatches & let you guys know.

Of course - Tomorrow will be day 7 - so you will have to wait for a while!

Ive done both, cartons and laying them down, and have had several successful hatches. I agree with the others its the humidity and temperature that determine your hatch. Good luck.
