Conflicting theories on if chickens will fly over my fence

yep those girls of mine use to fly at will even with clipped wings over a 6 ft and 12 ft fence,,now it is covered and they look PO'd

We have 2 Roos and 8 hens, one hen jumps/flies over our fence to the shrubby area on the other side to lay her egg. EVERY day she was doing this, until I kept her cooped up until she laid, then she got the idea that she needs to lay in the boxes only. She is the only one that has gone anywhere, the fence is 4'.
 
My standard cochins can fly to the barn rafters, easily 10-12' high, without blinking an eye. And they've managed such feats after wings were clipped. I have Buttercups that fly like very' doves and roost high in trees if they get half a chance.

It seems like stretching random twine around the top would be a lot more work than throwing netting over the top and tacking it to the fence with heavy staples.
