Your duck imprinted on you and the biting is him trying to assert dominance to mate.So I have a pet duck and he always loves to be near me follows me around and panics when I’m gone but I want to know does my duck also hate me or something because he always wants to bite me randomly and when I say no he gets very sad and just by me
@AstroDuck It amazes me that a duck would want to "mate" with a human. My drake just recently grabbed my arm and marked me with a "hickey"! It didn't hurt that much, but it did catch me by surprise and the mark lasted a week!! How do I let him know I am already married??Your duck imprinted on you and the biting is him trying to assert dominance to mate.
When ducks imprint they do not see you as human, but as another duck. The only way to get them to stop is to have an adequate number of females and to stop giving them extra attention. Only do your duck chores then leave him alone. Show that you are not another flock member to mate because as long as he sees you as such he will continue to act like a drake.@AstroDuck It amazes me that a duck would want to "mate" with a human. Got it! He just needs some more wives. He has been quite agitated because his mate has ducklings right now and they are getting all her attention. I have two other females, but they are only 4 months old. What age are the females old enough to be with a mature male? Thank you for your responses. Happy to help! You will want to wait until they are mature sexually. I believe for Muscovies that is around 6-7 months.Got it! He just needs some more wives. Are you sure because sometimes I feel like he’s being to hate me because of how he reacts to me petting him and how he being to bite me like he wasn’t like this before but I just hope that’s all my biggest fear is that the duck starts hating me because he’s depressed or somethingYour duck imprinted on you and the biting is him trying to assert dominance to mate.
He definitely sounds like an imprinted duckling. Ducks don't have hands so they bite down to hold the other down to mate. When you "say no" you're not submitting to him.Are you sure because sometimes I feel like he’s being to hate me because of how he reacts to me petting him and how he being to bite me like he wasn’t like this before but I just hope that’s all my biggest fear is that the duck starts hating me because he’s depressed or something
