Confused about these mallards

The male mallards drown the females? That's crazy. Why do they do that? Those drakes seem mean lol and they don't stay together as family?
Mallards don't intend to drown females, they do often partake in gang rapes though usually when a female hasn't a drake of her own - Mallard drakes stay with the female for 10 days from the start of egg incubation, then they go join the rest of the boys. If another drake manages to get his way with a paired female, her drake will abandon her, which then leaves her vulnerable to other drakes harassing her.

Male ducks can be brutal in their mating and then you add gang rape into the scenario you can have drowned females. It would be interesting if Some one did a study on this to what percentage female wild ducks are drowned during mating season. Why not they study really stupid stuff why not something in nature that happens.

They drown the females trying to breed them, not on purpose. Mallards do not mate for life, many birds don't form pairs. They breed and go their separate ways. Normally with the female raising the young, but there are some species of birds that the males raise the young. And some bird that lay their eggs in another bird species nest for them to raise up.
