Confused by chick behavior

I have an ambiguous white i was asking for input on in the breed and gender section. (mostly im just in denial because I reaaally wanted it to be a hen)
I was going to try to do the photo competition if I can get any not muddy ones! I havnt been able to capture nice ones of my favorite hens yet, so its a worknin progress. In the mean time, h
Sorry, but both birds in the top picture look like males to me. And in the bottom pic I see two white males, one with red shoulder patches on the left, one without on the right. Can't tell what's in the pen.

Thanks for posting pictures. It's always a thrill to live vicariously enjoying other's birds. I'm waiting for an ugly coop contest, I think I can out do everyone in that contest. We have a pit bull that keeps showing up every few weeks to kill chickens. My coop has 3 kinds of wire fencing nailed all over, scrap wood, decking you name it. It's now a fortress Cerberus can't break into. Or maybe she can. Ever have a dog pull and bend corrugated steel to get in the coop? Anyhow, your coop looks like a palace next to mine.
Wow! That's terrible! I would hook up layers of electric fencing not quite touching... and turn the voltage up high. ⚡️ i might also wait for her with a BB gun. I dont have the heart to kill her unless its my kids (although hubby totally would), but bb gun might change her mind without permanent damage.

Yes, thank you. I figured so, I just reeeally wanted the white to be a hen. 😅 that combined with a lack of comb or crowing, and that the comb actually turned bright red before we got our first dorking egg.. made me hope! But alas, the dorking layer has been identified, and its not the white. 🥲

Check your local laws. In many areas it's illegal to shoot to hurt a dog while it's completely legal to shoot to kill. The idea being it's cruel and unusual abuse and torture to inflict long term pain and suffering, while it's okay to end its life as quickly and humanely as possible. So you can kill it but you can't shoot to hurt or maim it.

Huh, I guess that makes sense. I know where we live its legal to kill in protection of property of livestock. I guess i should look that one up. I suppose some bb guns have enough power to embed it and cause more permanent pain, although mine would just bounce off. And be no worse than a bee sting, that really feels like it shouldn't count! 😅 I can see the logic, glad you told me before I had that situation. Electrical fence it still an option though!
