Confused chicken, roo or hen?

Sadly not, a very scared chicken if I go closer it flees. Gonna try and catch it when its dark.

That would be best. Get a pic in really good lighting.
I'm going to say, it looks male to me, but I can't see the saddle well enough to be certain.
And if you have another rooster and he's dominant, it will take longer for a cockerel to mature and show his finery.

My impression is male. The barring is more white than dark. For many breeds, that is a pretty big comb for 8 months if female (but some females have large combs earlier). The legs seem a bit thicker too, but hard to tell very well from pic. My guess is crowing will commence as days lengthen and it warms up.

I agree with Frazzemrat, looks like a cocckerel from the view of the picture. We do need that close up in natural light to see the saddle feathers. Then we can give you a definite answer. Good luck catching him.....or her.....
