Confused chicken, roo or hen?

My impression is male. The barring is more white than dark. For many breeds, that is a pretty big comb for 8 months if female (but some females have large combs earlier). The legs seem a bit thicker too, but hard to tell very well from pic. My guess is crowing will commence as days lengthen and it warms up.

I agree with Frazzemrat, looks like a cocckerel from the view of the picture. We do need that close up in natural light to see the saddle feathers. Then we can give you a definite answer. Good luck catching him.....or her.....

Yep, that's a cockerel.

as an aside, a male chicken is a cockerel until he's a year old. Likewise, a female chicken is a pullet until she's a year old.

Yeah looks more like a rooster than anything. Just still developing.I've still got one bout that age and yeah still not developed all those rooster traits
