Confused: Maran Question

If his birds were all mixed up, then your chicks are mixed up too. They're very attractive, but most likely all of them are mixed breeds. Just enjoy them, and don't worry too much about which breeds they're mixed with!

OMG!!! your the first person to say, that they ARENT MARANS at all....

Actually, three people in this thread alone have said pretty much the same thing. They are pretty birds -- but if the guy you got them from had his birds running together, then there is no telling what breeds they have in them.

Here's dark Marans eggs:

those are DARK eggs!!! And I agree they are pretty ...was just trying to narrow it down some. Like I stated I was told Wyandottes, Orps, Blue Laced Reds...something...

the man only had Marans....mainly. leghorns all the way in the back, but locked up. and that is it. I guess what I need to know is...it wont hurt if I get maran splash roos or blue roo to mate? I dont want to throw the line way off.

The thing is, there is no "line" to throw off. You said that even the breeder you got them from didn't know what they were....so there's absolutely no way for YOU to know what they are. You can mate them to anything you like and make pretty babies -- but you will never be able to call them purebred Marans. Just enjoy them, and don't worry so much about what they might be.
