Good afternoon

I used to think my brood of chickens where Pekin's but then someone told me they where Cochin's & now I hear they are Orpingtons? If anyone could please let me know the correct breed please give me a shout. What is the difference between Pekin & Orpingtons?

Definitely not Orpington.

In the USA they are called Cochin. In many other areas they are called Pekin.

There are 2 sizes available bantam (small) and giant (well giant).

Yours appear to be the bantam variety. Super fun little birds in my opinion. :p

A Pekin is not actually a cochin.

Pekins are the original name that the breed was given because they came from the Chinese city of Peking (much like Pekin ducks). Because they look like little cochins, they eventually came to be known as "bantam cochins." Pekins are not actually related to cochins, and are true bantams (meaning that they have no large counterpart.)

But because bantam Cochins are more common than Cochins in the US, people often leave out the "bantam" part of the name, and just call bantam Cochins "Cochins." Which can lead to confusion.

Cochins are huge, fluffy birds with feathered legs. Orpingtons do not have feathered legs. Pekins are small and have feathered feet.

You have Pekins, which are also called Bantam cochins.
