Yesterday we lost one of our RIR hens to what we are pretty sure was egg bound within 6 hours of noticing a problem. This morning while feeding I found one of our Deleware hens dead outside the coop. I first thought a predator attack, but there was no feathers loose or any sign of trauma or disease, she seemed fine yesterday evening. The rest of the flock seem fine.

What specific symptoms did the first bird show? Did you actually feel an egg on palpation of the bird and what treatment did you apply?
I found her after working a night shift. She was in the coop in the corner. When I picked her up her vent area was very messy, bulging, and had a horrible smell. U could feel a hard mass which I was pretty sure was an egg. I gave her an Epsom salt soak and some calcium and put her in a crate to rest to hopefully pass it while I slept for a few hours. I got up and went to check on her and do another soak and she was dead.
