confused!

I used 1/2 inch hardware cloth over windows. 20181104_151017_kindlephoto-24365180.jpg .The 1/4 inch isn't as tough. I used it to cover small openings. GC

1/2" inch......or if you have the means......go for 16 gauge 1/2" x 1" cage wire. A mouse might get through that, but nothing else will.

Sorry......it is commonly used as cage wire. Again size is 1/2" x 1" 16 gauge welded wire.

It is one of the variations on welded wire. If the store has it, it will be found alongside the hardware cloth, chicken wire and other welded wires. Our local Ace Hardware used to sell it (and may still) in small rolls. Some of the box stores might......some don't. TSC might......I don't go in there much.

My preferred source is our local farm coop that has a retail outlet. They buy it in 100 foot rolls and the resell it by the foot. They are selling to folks building bunny hutches, etc. ........and I suppose to folks like me. They actually stock it in 2', 3', and 4' widths.

This particular varmint has it's front paws on this stuff.....back paws are standing on 1" x 2" welded wire apron.

That is as far as he got.

Yes...great! I think what I might do is use 1/4 inch hardware cloth underneath the base of the actual coop and up the sides a bit and metal flashing on the seams of the coop. To stop mice from getting in coop.
And use what you are suggesting on the run as it's stronger and will stop the bigger guys. It's the fencing that's the big cost with building a chicken coop and run isn't it..lol

I also like what you did with the wood along the bottom. I was thinking of the same thing with metal flashing..but I was thinking..at chicken level..it will stop the breeze from flowing through the run. They aren't very tall.
