I recently got a baby chick for a science project. I have to stay with it for a week....in my house....the problem is he keeps hanging on the ledge...I am scared he'll jump off and explore the house.....might get killed by my dog..anyway why does he hang on the ledge

What ledge would that be? usually they would be in a brooder to stay warm. We usually use a clear storage box with a heat lamp near one end for warmth.

what type of chick? chicken? duck? goose ? guinea? turkey?

how old is it? 1st week 95 degrees decreasing 5 degrees per week.

flooring depends on age but should not be slippery. paper towel, or towels for the first week or so, then switch to shavings or straw etc.

They WILL take a flying leap from a table, and generally land safely, then die from the cold if you don't hear them peeping and come and rescue them.

! I say get that chick a friend if you can and as for sitting on the ledge, he's just roosting. I hope you have him in the brooder though. just curious what do you plan on doing with the chick after the one week??
