Confusing BLRW! My 7 week old BLRW has a very flat comb and almost no waddles which would indicate pullet. Yet she/he is super slow to feather and has almost no tail except a few feathers that curl down. Her coloring is pretty consistent throughout except her wing color is a slightly different shade than the rest of her. Is she/he a rooster to a pullet? I would love to know if she/he is a rooster. Which we will keep either way! Any opinions would be greatly appreciated!

I see nothing male. Looks like a pullet.

That’s what I think too except for the very delayed feather development and lack of tail. My friend purchased two BLRW from the same place on the same day and both of hers are fully feathered and have long tails. Hers actually have more developed waddles too but otherwise look like pullets.

I also see a pullet. Some birds just feather out slower. At this age, I pay more attention to wattles and comb development and color.

He/she does have some pink in the comb but I know that this is common with rose comb breeds. But it is even flatter than the one on my Dominique pullet who is the same age.

They all feathers a different rate. Wyandotte aren't a breed where males feather more slowly.

Tails are often the last feathers to come in in most chicks because they don't molt those out multiple times as they grow, like they do for the body feathers.

Interesting! I didn’t know that! Thank you!

Will be interesting to see if there's correlation between slow feathering and slow first egg! Not sure if that's farmers' lore or science- but it will be fun to watch. I have one too- but it's a Marans.

Your Maran is a slow feathering pullet? Do you have any pictures?
