Hey everyone. I'll try and make this short and answer any questions that follow! So. I have a young rooster. Roughly 3 months old. he is the smallest of the bunch. Seems to be growing slower. 3 days ago someone in the group pecked his ear hole badly so I isolated him as soon as I found him with blood on his head. Now, it appears he hasn't been allowed to eat or drink the last couple days. I'm not sure if he was bullied or just "depressed" but after examining him ive found he is very under weight and now lethargic. He shows no interest in feed or water since last night. He is sitting, hunched over and not alert or moving at all. I've been 'force feeding" him electrolyte water and a mash of feed. Today I force fed him some boiled egg yolk along with the electrolyte water and dont think he is improving. now I'm noticing that his crop feels a bit swollen but it doesn't feel like feed it feels like its full of air? Does anyone have any idea what that could be or any other suggestions on how to help him? Thanks a bunch. Photo is of him in his current state. He doesn't move around at all and Is always sleeping and eyes closed. Not looking too good 😔

Could you try describing the crop some more? Does it squishy, like bread dough? See if you can tell if it's full first thing in the morning before he eats.

It feels Like, if you took a balloon and blew a couple breaths into it. Not tight. Just. A little plump but it feels like air not food? If that helps. Also he isn't eating. At all. Everything he gets into him is me force feeding him a couple times a day. Like, make a soft mix of food. Gently open the beak and stick it to the back of his throat. He swallows from there but he has no interest at all in eating on his own

Does it seem to hurt him when you poke it, and does his breath smell?

No reaction when I feel the crop so I don't think its sore. His breaking is normal. Just his overall behavior is not good. not atall interested in food and very lethargic. Ive never seen a chicken in this shape before. All he does is curl up and sleep

The photo I posted was taken this morning. He's literally in the exact same position this evening

I'm not sure what it is then. You could ferment some feed for him, and eggs and yogurt is also a good idea. Does the crop keep the shape you push it into? Maybe doughy crop?

No it kinda pops back out into the balloon shape after. I honestly have no idea what's going on either I just know he feels really cruddy because he's acting half dead 😞

I see. I also had a chicken that displayed similar symptoms a few weeks ago, except she also drooled. I also force fed, isolated, and gave oregano and garlic for a few days, and she was back to normal within a week. I hope your rooster feels better soon!

Thats a positive outcome thank you for your thoughts and help!
