I heave heard that roosters protect the flock from predators while they forage, so there is a benefit to having a rooster with your flock. I'm torn about what to do.. Whether to separate the roosters or not. I'm new to keeping chickens this year.

Same here. That's mainly why I got them - for protection more than breeding. If the more aggressive one doesn't settle down he may have to be sold and the other can stay if he behaves. They're only about 13 weeks old - the pullets are 16-17 weeks.

The experts i talked with say if they are behaving badly toward hens you need to seperate them until maturity.
If behavior continues at maturity when you reintroduce to hens then cull!!

Ok - I'll have to figure out something. Hopefully by winter they can all get along.

I'm not looking forward to that challenge (of culling)! I hatched waaaay too many roosters (at least 10 so far!), and want to keep at least 3 roosters in 2 coops if it works out. (I'm already building another coop!) It started out as a desire to have a small backyard flock. Lol!

I have 10 7 girls 3 boys one boy has to go
Waiting till 5 months old to choose best 2
Im thinking of taking butchering class at cameron family farm $20. I want to be responsible chicken owner. Roos not easy to "rehome".

That's the truth! I put several free roo ads out with pics to no avail. I'm resigned to having to.. You know. But I found a place in New Milford that does all that for you. I read in someone's review that it's humanely done and cost is reasonable. I can comment on that after a couple months after I use them myself. The name is Tarzia Meat Packing if you want to google it. I don't want to do it myself..

That's good to know. I think Cameron charges $10 a bird. I couldn't do it myself but my mother-in-law grew up on a farm and knows how.

Uh oh - according to their website they are no longer processing poultry as of 6/7/2013.
