So sorry for your loss. I know from experience I know that sometimes the lessons are hard learned. We lost 3 birds (one was may favorite lap hen) this Summer to a coyote in broad day light. I thought we had a good set up, but the flaws seem obvious after the fact. It's a horrible feeling and all I can say is fix it, and let yourself off the hook as soon as you can.

I am so sorry that this happened to you. I've only kept chickens for three years but I know how awful it would feel to lose them to a predator.

I did want to say, however, that I learned this week through Melina Brown's emailings (chicken meet up) that bantams are much more vulnerable to the cold than regular sized birds. With the single digit nights we've been getting, she recommended bringing all your bantams into either the house or garage.

Best to keep away all the predator spray around the run with fox urine.

New Chick, I can't imagine how terrible that would have been! I worry about hawks during the daytime with my bantams.

And, Margitas - how terrible! Did you lose your birds in one incident or in several?

I was just standing here looking out my kitchen window and saw the weasel... in daylight! It was running from our coop, too smart to be caught in the trap we had set overnight. Regardless of whether we catch it or not, we're screening the entire floor and any opening great than 1/2".

And, I'll be getting a bottle of fox urine, too. Or will that bring foxes around???????

The predator urines do work, but there is some risk of attracting. I used fox urine and that was the only time i ever saw a fox in my garden, but sometimes you have to get rid of the problem at hand and deal with the potential for side effects later.

We went to a lecture by the Connecticut DEP and they said that predator problems by coyotes and the weasel family are WAY up over the last few years.

Thank you for each and everyone , now I have couple breed for back up and some need to grow .
But this year just don't start right. Just everyone keep the eye open before not to late, is take only couple min.

I have more now , website was not update long time ago but i will do soon, eggs only sale if my incubator is full. check back end of Feb , to see my other birds . Thank you
