Well my local agway has, rir's, red sexlinks, barred rocks, and white rocks coming in. I'm gonna go with the min that they require you to buy which is 6. I'm thinking maybe 2 RIR's, 2 Red Sexlinks, and maybe one each of the barred rocks and the white rock....give my flock a little variety....or maybe 3 RIR's and 3 of another kind...I guess I'll know more when I go see the little chicks...I don't really think there is any wrong way of picking 6 out fo the 4 different kinds....so kinda still up in the air. A question for you.....do you think a 4x6 foot coop with a height or about 6 feet will be ample for my 6 hens?

For six hens that should be plenty of room. I like to have a variety in my flock also and temperaments are different from breed to breed. Plus having different colors etc will actually help if you get others that look different down the road fit in with your existing flock easier.

Just a reminder that there are still lots of towns and cities right here in Connecticut up for grabs in the BYC Chicken L.O.R.E. Project!

This is a massive undertaking, and everyone is encouraged to participate! Your knowledge of Chicken L.O.R.E. will earn you GFM Scratch, which are good towards new GFM Memberships, Membership extensions, or Membership gifts.

Remember - you don't have to select a city in Connecticut - cruise the selection list and choose any city still available!

Get started now! Click on the Chicken L.O.R.E. link above for all the details, and remember your Project Managers are here to help in any way we can.

Good Luck, and Thanx for Joining In!

Hey all. I'm now a proud papa to 7 new little girls. Picked them up from my local Agway yesterday. 2 Rhode Island Reds, 2 Barred Rocks, 2 Red Sexlinks, and 1 Americauna, sorry if I butchered the spelling, but her name is Charlie. My little girl picked her out, with dad's help

, paid for her with her own money, and named her! It was a great trip for us. I'll post pics soon on my BYC page soon. Maybe tomorrow. Just wanted to pass on the news that there's a new BYC addict in eastern Connecticut!!!

I went to the Tractor Supplies in Willimantic and Jewitt City/Griswold last week because they were supposed to have chicks. Neither store had them. It's not like I was going to bring home a couple chicks or ducks or anything. I just wanted to see them but THEY WEREN'T THERE!!!!
