Connecticut!

I don't think my bones will thaw out my house was so cold during the power outage. Hope we don't have any trouble during the winter with the power I still see large broken limbs just hanging by a thread everywhere.

Hello everyone! Sorry I haven't kept up with this thread in a few months, but now I'm back into backyardchickens now that the farmwork is dwindling down!

I still only have 15 chickens, getting about 7-8 eggs a day. I will be getting rid of a few leghorns and a polish, and a bantam next spring, but I've decided I'll just winter them over this year. Getting a batch of chicks next spring with a farmer friend of mine.

I've been ridin' horses, I've had 6 lessons so far and I'm loving it! I also still lease 2 goats, and the cow went to slaughter.

Today I cleaned up the chicken coop, added more shavings, moved the shaving and popcorn barrels (I got some un-popped kettle corn from a local orchard. It helps cut down with the feed cost and the chickens sure do love it!), I put in a new post to catch the human door from swinging open, or closed for that matter.

I'd love to hear how everyone's doing! I haven't talked to Tina in a while!?!?!?!?!?!

So see'n as how nice it was outside today I decided to get a few finishing touches done on the new run. I was running some wires for lights and outlets for the run from inside the barn. Gets to be around noon and my daughter takes a break from her computer/phone/TV thing to come outside to see how I'm doing. She asks if I'm hungry and she offers to bring me a sandwich. I'm out in the run when she comes back with a tray and she sets it down on the table that's on the barn deck. I tell her "thanks" and she goes back to her computer/phone/TV thing. I finish up the outlet I was wiring and go to push the door open - doesn't budge - my daughter, out of habbit, slid the bolt shut the run door when she went to make my lunch. Not a soul in site. I start yell'n for help. nothing. I yelled for a good fifteen mintues. Dragon, my faithfull companion no matter what, was snoozing on the deck. He looks at me, looks at my sandwich, looks back at me - I can see the little corgi brain churn'n away. I keep yelling for my wife and daughter to rescue me. Situation is ridiculous. I'm locked in the chicken run, my dog is going to eat my lunch, chickens are giving me a look that says "hmmm. maybe here's our chance to get even...." and my family has forsaken me. My hands are to big to fit through the wire screening. Even if I crawl through the "chunnel" i can see that the coop door is bolted too so that would be futile. After a half-hour of yelling my voice is shot so I take my wire cutters and cut a hole in the wire screen big enough to get my hand through to unbolt the door. I'm pretty ticked off by now, wasted valuable daylight, sore throat, cold too as I had taken my coat off in the warm barn. I march up to the house, throw the door to the kitchen open and start yell'n at the wife - who has no idea what happened since she was vacuuming. She just busts out laughing, thinks it's the funniest thing she's ever heard - at least since the last time my daughter did the exact same thing to me when I was building the coop last year. My daughter hears the commotion and comes into the kitchen. "You locked daddy in the chicken thingy again" my wife says through whoops of laughter. "Oops, sorry daddy" then Rachel starts laughing too. thinks it's hilarious. Dragon pops through the doggie door, mayo on the tip of his nose. Wife and daughter fall on the floor laughing. I tell them I hope they choke. I get no respect.

Can I just say you have a way with words! I started chuckling at your story bc I accidentially did that to my husband a few years back boy was he mad! He added pull strings to all interior coops so no one would ever get stuck in there again!
