Okay, so I have a problem. Just went out to collect eggs and visit the girls, and found one egg smeared with the yolk of another. Upon further inspection, there was a mostly empty shell, shattered, its contest eaten!
About a week ago, the girls decided they no longer wanted to lay in the nest boxes and started to lay in the corner of the coop nearest the nests. For reference, we have four hens and three boxes, so plenty of space. I know they were eating because after I clean the mess inside, I put the yolk smeared egg into a nest and one hen hopped right in and started to peck the yolk. I scolded and pushed her away, snatched the egg. I've read that filling an egg with spicy, spicy mustard this might stop the issue.
Any suggestions? Please help!!

I've always heard "once an egg eater, always an egg eater" . I don't know if that's true, but I do know that chickens can't sense "spicy" so all the hot in the world won't stop them.
A suggestion.....feed them extra calcium and really harden up the shells.
