Why? Why now????

I have three broodies in the same pen and the others don't know where to lay the eggs so they are either laying them in the wet pen or not laying at all. How annoying!!

What do you do with broodies in the middle of winter? Granted it's not that cool right now, but at any moment it could go back to deep freeze mode. Can they keep themselves and the eggs warm enough?

I have the same issue with Phillis the Phrizzle. She's been broody since thanksgiving and will not give up. She keeps collecting eggs from the other hens and guards them like a dragon guarding a treasure. She's so tiny I don't see how she can keep any hatched chicks warm enough. I may move her indoors and set up a brooder in the barn with a heat lamp. She is soooooooo stubborn.

Jill, I let her have her way and she is so big and fluffy I think she will be okay inside the insulted coop. She is even plucking her own feathers out to make the darn nest bigger and fluffier!!!

Egg Crate, I would watch Phyllis b/c I've lost those cute little ones that are very persistant

they wittle down to nothing weight wise, unless they get their way.

Just wanted to stop in and say hi. This year will be my first time raising chickens and I'm really looking forward to it.
