Hi Larry,
No, pics of him yet. But he's one of yours. One of the 3 my husband and I picked up at your house back on Feb. 11 of this year. They were about a week old then.

Thanks Mikedero, but I've really gotten into the birds on the 'Critical" and 'Watch' lists. But my favorites are Icelandics, Orpingtons, Marans and Ameraucanas.

I have a pretty dumb question.

Ok I read on here all the time that peoples chickens are getting killed by other animals. How does this happen? I mean if the coop and run are built right nothing should be able to get in. Take for instance my coop and run

My coop I have hardware wire going up the sides of the 2 feet and buried 2 feet under ground, also the cover of my run is covered by chicken wire there are no gaps at all. At night I close the coops door so nothing can get in not even a mouse.

So if you build the coop right and run right then how the heck are so many people losing chickens??? I let mine free range when I am out side, when I am not outside they go into the run.

Dave I am sorry if it seems this is coming at you. But it is not, I was just wondering. If you look on the site it seems every day someone is losing birds.

Many use chicken wire only it seems, or there are predator-sized gaps, or the chickens free range, or they get locked up at night but someone forgot or got home late. But I have seen several tales here of hawks or foxes or coyotes snatching chickens right in front of their supervising owners. We plan on a super-secure coop and run but are also hoping to let the girls run around with us when we're home and outside close by. We do have hawks circling daily and a number of foxes though. I doubt we'd lose several at once but there's always a risk. I just don't feel right making them live in a little run all their lives. Even if I deliver bugs and weeds and all that good stuff.
