Yeah, that sounds like a sex-linked Freedom Ranger type of bird, not the Cornish X. They are designed more for pasturing rather than confined and you purchase everything they eat, though you can pasture the Cornish X too.

@RUNuts the white (or buff) feathers give you a prettier carcass if you pluck. They have the same amount of pin feathers but they don't show up nearly as much as on birds with dark feathers. I skin mine and cut them into serving pieces when I butcher so color isn't important to me but it can be very important to some people. That's the main reason the Cornish X are white. A prettier carcass.

Some people on here have posted that they had a cockerel start trying to crow at just a few weeks old, but that is pretty rare. So I cannot give you any guarantees about when yours will start. But I hardly ever have one start by 12 weeks.
