Currently have 5 grown chickens, and a brooder full of chicks and keets.
I would like to get some Turkeys to raise for holiday dinners. I have a few questions before I get too far into the planning stages.
1) Can poults be raised with brooder plates instead of heat lamps?
2) Can and will they use the watering nipples? If so which is better for them the vertical or horizontal nipples?
I started out with a heat lamp for my chicks and keets, but made some homemade brooder plates that they preferred to the heat lamp. So I can do either, just want to know if anyone has successfully used brooder plates for poults. Currently using the vertical style nipples for the chicks, there is some spillage (I think from the keets attacking the nipples) but not as much as with the traditional chick waters.
