Consolidated Kansas

They both got microchips and tags the other day too so they are permanently identified.

tweety, what a nice setup, great job, I'll bet your birds love it! That is a really nice generational picture, what a cute granddaughter you have!

Hawkeye, how about you get some other kind of eggs besides Silkies & try those in your bator, then you would know if it was just them or not?

Pikeman, I'm glad you found your hen.

Taz & IVY, guess what, we have baby chickies today! DH & I went to bed late because we were trying to get things back in place after my painting episode last night, so we were dead to the world. All of the sudden we were both awakened by the loudest peeping from downstairs in the kitchen where the incubators are sitting on the breakfast bar. Of course we both jumped out of bed, yes even my DH went down with me & lo & behold there were two little Ameraucana chicks just hatched. Here is a pic of them:

Hey IVY, if you're around what color do you think these will be? I'm hoping they're Lavender, but I don't know what they look like just hatched. These two are a couple of days early, they're not really due until Sat. I saw one other egg trying to start to pip, but it's an EE egg.

rvroman, one of these is yours! Keena says if you end up with a rooster she will trade you for a hen because she's wanting a rooster.

Hawkeye, Here are pics of the furniture that came at 7:45 this morning:

The couch is kind of a sectional thing, you could buy as many pieces as you wanted. I still don't think my DH got it together quite right, I may have to wait until my son comes again to muscle it around.

And here are the recliners, probably where we'll be be a lot of the time when we're in there. They're electric because with my knees being so bad I can't push the manual ones back. I didn't even know they made such a thing until we started looking at furniture. They lay all the way down so you ultimately could sleep in them. I sure wish I would have had these when I had my rotator cuff surgery on my shoulder. I couldn't sleep laying down, it hurt too much & I still have to sleep with that arm up on a pillow after 2 years.

Anyway, that's the news from my house today, I'm pooped out, I feel like a mack truck ran over me after painting like an idiot trying to get it done last night & then getting very little sleep. I have to run & get feed for the little chickies now because I don't have any, I wasn't expecting them until maybe tomorrow. I hope some more start hatching soon so these have some company. I put the eggs in the incubator today that I got in the mail, so we'll see how they do. They had packed them in individual bubble wraps & then they all rode in a big box of foam peanuts. These came all the way from California in 3 days, the turkey eggs were from KS & they came in one day.

Pikeman, glad Sesame is home and safe!

Josie-- Molly is gorgeous!! You should send a picture of her email to her previous owners! You did a fabulous job on her! I like her tail fluffy! The new pup is really cute too! Congrats on them both! :)

Ivy, hey, I'll be glad to see you around more! :)

Someone mentioned using any 'ole eggs to test my incubator with. I'll bet that my own layer eggs are fertile. But they will be a barred rock/silkie cross. And not a very pretty silkie! LOL I really don't want mutts, and I have enough chickens. I'd be curious to see what they looked like, but ultimately, don't want them. So I don't really want to incubate them, I guess... Unless someone wanted a silkie/BR cross!

Trish-It's a little hard to tell from the picture, but it looks like a black and a lavender. I'm not sure about the one on the right, but if it is darker than the other one with a whiter tummy it's probably a black. The lavenders are lavender all over from the start. I LOVE your new furniture. I'm going to have to get something different one of these days. I have a lazyboy recliner that I use and I've had it for years. It's starting to get worn out. The leather has lost a lot of it's finish. I will probably wait until after the move and do something then that coordinates and fits in the new place.

Josie-WOW! Molly looks like she could grace the cover of a magazine. Geewhiz. I wouldn't want anyone to see my dirty, hairy, scraggly looking guys next to her! Oh, the pup is SO cute! Where did you get it? How old is it? Isn't it awesome how Molly automatically knows to take care of the pup? I'll tell you, though... it doesn't go that smooth if you try to add another adult dog to the mix, expecially males. They will FIGHT!

It is SO beautiful out. I just spent the last 30 minutes out on the deck in my $2 lounge chair. It was SO relaxing! I could watch the chickens wandering, the guineas hunting bugs and watch and listen to my turkeys doing their thing. I just loved it. I did however notice that my lower leg (where exposed to the sun) was starting to darken so I came in. I didn't want to get a sunburn.

Hawkey-I promise to get some pictures of my turkeys soon.

Danz-I sure wish I could help you out on the polish. I just can't take on any more varieties right now. I'd love to have a breeder pair someday.

I sure wish I could get up and do more. I feel like a lady of leisure (when I'm not hurting too bad.) All this sitting around is making me want a lap dog. I know we don't need another dog, but I want one so bad. My son's little boston terrier is our only house dog now, and he is VERY bonded to me. He is not a good lap dog, though. He absolutely can't sit or lay still more than 2 seconds. I swear he has ADHD. He is the most fun little dog I've ever had, but just not what I would want bouncing around on my lap right now. He is going blind, but can still see a little out of one eye. He was outside while I was on the deck. I know he could smell me up there, but he couldn't figure out where I was and he couldn't see me. Poor little guy. He never has been able to walk anywhere. If he moves, he runs. Consequently he runs into things, then he turns and barks at it like it was the obstacles fault.

I'd love to get a Havanese.

Trish, I LOVE your new furniture! It looks very comfortable, and i'm a BIG fan of leather! So easy to keep clean and lasts so long. I'd never seen an electric recliner, either. That's really neat! Love your new chicks! Looks like you're having no problems with your Brinsea.

Ivy, yes, can't wait to see your turkeys! I'm glad you're enjoying your time off. It's COLD outside, or I'd be out there. I've already run out there a few times and I'm just a wimp, I guess. :)

I made a duck diaper today! Or chicken diaper... which ever. I think I will make one for Zorro too! Then he can really spend time in here watching tv with us! LOL

IT WORKED! I just looked out the patio door and I have 3 wild turkey hens in the back yard! My RP's called them in!

I just love watching them!

Hawkeye-I would love to see that diaper on a chicken. I'm having trouble picturing it in my mind.

Living in the north-west part of Georgia, away from Atlanta as far as we could. My dad was a large animal vet in Russell County (he grew up in the Burden/South Haven/Winfield area) and while he never really 'treated' chickens, I had a good ol' country upbringing; he was K-State grad (and a life-long Wildcat fan!) and he's not much help with poultry... apart from the occasional anecdote.

I really, really appreciate your helpful advice, and will begin the food additives immediately. They may be molting; feathers dropping out and patchy, and, they are really foul (no pun intended) dirty, and stinky! And... I have noticed much diarrhea and projectile pooping as well. One in particular has scratched her an area near the fence, and pretty much heads there at sundown.

I did manage to herd all five into the coop a few nights ago - they were after the food - I had hung the feeder inside. Three of them head inside when I fill the feeder at sundown, but two won't go in.

Did I mention that the pen is quite large - 25'x40' and had been overgrown with English Ivy; I dug back quite a bit of it to give them a place to scratch, and I've been given conflicting reports on clearing it all out. Some say to not worry, they'll eat the leaves away; others say clear it all out.

Needless to say, I've been quite busy trying to figure it all out.

Thanks again!

Hawkeye, that is a really nice diaper you made! Did you have a pattern or did you just look at something & make it?

Thanks guys on the furniture, we're pretty proud of it since it's the first furniture we've bought in 15 years. That's how long it took for my DH to finally decide we needed something new, It sure it comfy, I love the recliners how they work so smoothly & are so soft. I almost fell asleep in one awhile ago.

Well we have another chick in the hatcher, it's an EE. The two Ameraucanas are picking on the poor little thing, pecking at it. One of them is especially ornery, I wonder if it's a rooster. They're both doing great, but I was just leaving them in the hatcher for awhile to let them dry completely & maybe get a few more hatched before I take them out to the brooder. I've got to get things set up out there for them & it's really chilly today. I have the heat lamp & all but they're really going to have to huddle, so I'm hoping a few more will hatch so they can snuggle together. Here is the newest baby:

You can see that one little Amerauacana in the background, that is the ornery one getting ready to peck the new chick again. They didn't even let the poor thing get totally out of the shell before they started picking on it. The drier these chicks get & more fluffy the more I think IVY from what you said that they're going to both be black, darn. Well maybe some of the others will be Lavender. I still have 5 more Amerauacana eggs in the hatcher that haven't hatched yet & then there are more in the incubator that aren't ready yet for lockdown. I put the blue wheaten eggs in yesterday & I have a few more eggs that I don't have room for in the incubator yet until some move out. But I would like to get the Royal Palm eggs in first so they can be cooking. I'm excited to see if any of those hatch. After seeing yours Hawkeye I have really wanted some of those. Maybe if I get an extra Tom you can talk your DH into letting you have a boyfriend for Seymour.

Well I think I'm going to have to have a nap before I can do anything else, I'm just giving out. I don't do well without sleep, it makes me hurt & just feel sick, I have a headache from it. I'll see you all later on.

daveloveslori, is there anyway you can partition off part of the pen close to their coop. Since they were used to a really small cage before, maybe they are overwhelmed with all the extra space. A smaller area might help them acclimate easier and then you could remove the divider. Just a thought.

Josie, I missed your post also with the pics of Molly & the new pup. Molly looks really nice & the pup is so cute! Where did you get the pup from?

Mine are now out at night doing their job & I did hear them barking out in front last night before my DH got home. Oh & they barked at the furniture delivery guys today, that kind of surprised me because they have never barked at anyone before. But they drove up in this big noisy truck, so I guess they didn't like that much.
