I have no idea what stores I'll be assigned this year. We do a joint effort divide and conquer approach with the family. I haven't found anything really tempting in the ads so far this year myself.

The only breeds we're breeding pure at the moment are the Silkies and Ameraucanas the kids show. Our Cuckoo Marans are both pullets and are going to be crossed with a Brahma roo for a sex linked meat/egg bird project. We won't be hatching anything else this year though until after the big show in OK.

Right now we only have a few chicks hatched this week by one of our yard Silkies. Our LF Brahma's the daddy.

Funny how with chicken math my hard rule of no more than 12 birds and no roos resulted in an actual head count of 77 this week including multiple roos.

You should ask MyABCs3 for a Cuckoo pullet this Spring, or some eggs to hatch- I know she'll be selling them- hers lay a pretty dark egg, too.

If your heading to Lowe's on Black Friday I should be in line. And I don't doubt you could have enabled me! I need another bird but am concerned with the ones I have. When the one came down with Mereks my only layer quit laying. I was that was a sign of the illness. Plus my other Americauna is a little younger than the one I lost so have had my eye on her health. But it has been a week and my Golden Sex-link started laying again and no ill signs from the other. I was afraid I would lose them. I would love a Cuckoo Maran pullet in the spring! If you take a lunch break anywhere near the airport black friday let me know.

I can't: loud=bad in the city!!

I do know someone who wants egg or keets- even grown birds, if you have some for sale (affordably.)

I think they're a wild-looking, amazing bird, though!

FondofChicks, I will have cuckoo maran pullets in the spring. Just let me know if you are interested. I will post pics of the most recent hatch - great little fuzz buckets. Also, got some Easter Eggers from ChooksChic. If you haven't seen her birds, you are missing out. The chics are beauties and their eggs should be big and bluish-green. Is it bad that I am already wishing for spring?

ChukarNoob - would love to attend, but this Thursday I am in KC with meetings already! Please plan more gatherings! My non-chicken loving friends (which are most of my friends) are tired of hearing about our chickens. Need other enthusiasts to educate me and provide an outlet!

Everyone ready for the cold coming our way this afternoon and evening???

I am ready for the cold wet rain I have the wood stove stoked! Anyone going to Lawrence tomorrow; if you have geraniums in your yard I would love to have them for my green house. As they are most likley done by now you could pull them up and put them bare root in an old sack. Just trying to green up the green house this winter. Now that I have a wood stove I think I can keep it green for low to no cost.
Any way let the rain come!

And I wanted it so bad for so long. I especially

being able to get live birds through the mail now. Although now that my yards predominately black, I've told a few people they were giant crows.

I had some back when I lived at Solomon, KS. I loved having them roam the yard. It was so funny to watch them. They would all move and turn in synchrony, like their heads were all tied to the same string. Funny birds. Noisy, yes, but out where I lived, who cares?

I ended up selling my guineas. I got them so they could roam the yard. I didn't want to keep them in a coop. When I started loosing one every day to bobcats I decided it would be better to sell them than use them for wildlife food.

Where I live now we have lots of coyotes, bobcats and other predators. Our livestock guardian dogs keep them at bay. I've had roosters running loose for some time now with no losses, so maybe next summer I will try the guinea thing again.
