What is wrong with people!!!!!?????!!! I finally have some one potentially interested in Lucie and they even raise sheep and this lady posts this under the response from the potentially interested family.

Please remember that this mix is not a true LGD do to the fact there is a herding breed in the mix. She may work fine but there is a chance for issues to arise. Because the herdinginstinct may kick in. Just thought I should mention something. Cause would hate for someone to end up with a possible problem. She would be a great all around farm dog. I would just be hesitant to put in alone with livestock.

Like I would place the dog in a situation where she was doomed to fail. She doesn't even know the darn dog! This dog is submissive to my geese who are the biggest pansies on earth. They run and scream from everything. The only problem I have is with my bantam chickens who are tiny!! She has lived with livestock, ALONE!!! I mean, seriously. I even sent someone this ladies way when they contacted me about Lucie and she was going for a trial elsewhere to buy a pup from her. After the lady that spent $150 on one of her pups she called to tell me that the dog was really sick and they had to rush it to the vet. I felt so badly that I had sent them to her and they got a sick puppy. But I didn't go talking badly about her dogs right on the page under her posts for her pups for sale! Good lord, why can't people mind their own stinking business.

Thanks. Do you think she has a chance? I am trying to prepare myself for what happens. I lost my other old cat in 1996 when his kidneys shut down. I have felt guilty ever since leaving him in a cage at the vets instead of having him home. I just know he felt we deserted him. If I knew she wouldn't live for sure I would go get her and let her die here. I don't want her to die feeling lonely. I called this particular vet because he is the one everyone has said is the best. It was worth driving an hour each way to get her the best care possible. Our local vets don't have the equipment to handle these things.

I have lost 2 cats to renal failure. My vet tells me that 9 of 10 house cats that live to the age of 10 die from kidney failure. We did the "dialysis" thing too (maybe even the same vet) twice and bought Coco an additional year and a half. Keep the faith. It only takes 1/10 of the function of one kidney to keep a cat alive if you are careful with the food. I'll keep you in my thoughts. My pets are my kids too, and Coco was my first "child" after I got married. She was a Burmese show cat and lived to be 17 (against all odds, she was suposed to live only 10-11 years according to the breeder). I still wake up at night "feeling" her between my feet under the covers.

Well I am back home obviously. with swollen eyes and a broken heart. I just can't stop crying. I got there right after they opened. Luckily I tried calling early and got hold of someone, and got permission to bring her in. Tyggy has renal failure. Her levels were extremely elevated. They are forcing fluids through her which he said is the equivalent of doing dialysis. As long as she survives, he will do this for 2-3 days until the levels decrease. Then she will have to be on medication and a special diet the rest of her life. He did indicate with levels that high that it wasn't looking good for her. I just can't give up yet, although in my heart I know her chances are very slim. She was fine until last night when I noticed she wasn't her normal frisky self and felt cooler than normal when she cuddled up next to me in bed. This morning I tried to give her a drink and she tried but gagged on it.
This cat is one I rescused when it was too young to eat, when her mother got killed. She has never been even remotely like a cat. She is extremely smart and very loving to everyone. I swear she understands what I say. I ask her for a kiss she comes up and puts her forehead on my lips. She is 13+ years old so we've been together a long long time. I have two other cats who are 14 and 15 years old. Now I wonder how much longer they will be around too. They are special as well but Tyggy is the queen of the house.
The vet is supposed to call me if there is any change and said he will call each morning to give me an update on her levels.
Please pray that she survives. This is like loosing a child.

Josie some people are just total jerks. I would respond and ask her if she were married to a veterinarian too. So what if she herds a little with sheep or goats. That could be a benefit in my opinion.
Thanks Sharol. I'm just feeling pretty hopeless. I had taken her to the vet a couple months ago for a bladder infection and I thought she was fine. When I read about renal failure now I am thinking my vet should have suggested the other diet for her then. I have noticed that there has been a lot more urine in the cat box lately but didn't know which of the cats was going so much and I thought it was a good things since she stopped going when she had the infection. It's so hard to track what they are doing when there are 4 of them here.
If she makes it I have no idea how I'll keep her on a special diet separate from the others. I don't know if I could afford to feed them all that stuff. I haven't seen the price yet.

Chicken Danz,

My prayers go out to you. I have been through renal failure with two pets, a seventeen year old shih tzu and an eight year old cat. The dog, I held on to him too long. I kept him at the vet for 4 - 5 days hoping his numbers would improve but they didn't, but then again he was very elderly. I always felt guilty having him go through that.

About 8 years later, my cat was diagnosed with renal failure, and I put him down after a day when his numbers didn't improve. I always felt guilty about this too, maybe I did too soon, but my vet said if he survived I would only be buying a couple months. That was twelve years ago, so maybe things have changed a lot in veterinary science since then.

You just have to trust your intuition on this, there is no right or wrong answer, and I think we always second guess ourselves. I always ask the vet what they would do if it were their pet, and I think they have always been honest with me.

Hugs!

Anyone wanting a bantam little rooster? I was at Atwoods in Derby talking with this guy about all the cute chicks - this lady came up to me afterwards asking if I'd like to have this rooster. She said someone gave it to her and she felt obligated to take it . She does not have any chickens or any other poultry - just this one lonely rooster. She seemed to be a very nice lady trying to do a good deed, but is not stuck and feels she didn't do this rooster any favors by bringing him to a home alone with no real means for him. I gave her my email address and told her to email me and I'd see what I could do to help him find a new home. She says he is very sweet and gentle. She lives North of Derby - that's about all I know.. if you're interested, let me know and I can pass the information to her.

Is this the mouse trap you're talking about? http://www.amazon.com/Victor-M310-L...8086330&sr=8-1&keywords=victor+tin+mouse+trap

When I lived in upstate NY, we had a lot of mice problems in our older home and purchased a trap similar to the one above and it worked wonders too! Looks to be the same idea.. here a link to that one too.. http://www.amazon.com/Kness-101-0-006-Ketch-All-Mousetrap/dp/B00004RA4D/ref=pd_sim_lg_6

Though I have a small operation at this time, I think I am going to go ahead and get one of these so I don't get too over my head with mice! (I have 2 little kitties, but I don't have a lot of faith in them yet! But, they do sleep and hang out under the chicken coop - this is a good thing - maybe they can catch the mice when they first approach the coop for food/shelter.)

My little Burmese (6 lbs.) had chronic cystitis most of her life, so the kidney/bladder problems weren't new to us when she got really ill. In fact, she was so used to urine tests that if I set her in the litter pan and put a measuring cup under her bottom, she would pee on command. Sometimes those infections do weaken the kidneys, but don't blame yourself. KD isn't cheap, but it isn't prohibitive. It is basically a very low ash content food. They don't need as much of it because it is very high fat and calorie and lower carb and protein.

My dachshund has spent the last 3 days digging in the corners of the chicken house trying to get to the mice in the walls. The girls have gotten used to him and just stay in their nests laying eggs while he hunts. He is good with the chickens, not so much with mice.

Thanks. I couldn't let them put her down unless I was there. I've been there when this happened with several animals and know sometimes it is the most humane thing to do. But I sure don't want her dying alone. She doesn't seem in pain, but she sure doesn't seem good at all. I am just clinging near the phone worrying I might miss a call. My other old cat went quickly when his kidneys shut down, but he had a brain tumor and the days leading up to his death were awful.
We both thought our cats were eating the best possible diets they could but obviously that wasn't the case. I may have to change the whole scope of what they eat. I need more research I guess. My poor birds are being ignored today. I fed them but haven't felt like doing anything else.
Medawinks if you are reading I am making winter melon and pork soup. I found so many variations I hope it turns out good.
At least my trip to Emporia yielded some nice pork ribs and some fresh ginger that wasn't available here.
