Consolidated Kansas

Good for you!

I have very little company and I HATE having company because I always work myself into a fever, (except my dear friends who already know what a slob I am and accept me as I am.)
But I have made major plans, purchased groceries to feed a group a meal, cleaned and cleaned, and then had last minute cancellations. Then I am am always so nice about it. Why? I have no idea. And the excuse is always such a lame one. " I have a beer tasting I got invited to, and this is pretty rare." This one came after setting a date 2 months in advance and by one of my own family.
I have a family member and his family who have planned to come at least 10 times and cancelled after they should be here. The excuse is usually money. But wouldn't they know before the last minute they can't afford gas? I could go on and on. But the worst part is they always invite themselves and then cancel. Go figure.
But worse yet are the people that call and I drop plans for them so they can come buy birds and they never show up or call. I don't do any cleaning or anything cause I don't invite strangers into my house, but I do have to arrange my schedule and sit at home waiting.

I really need to get myself busy today. I probably say that every day!

Hopefully the weather will be pleasant and I can get some work done.
Danz-- YES!!! Josie's little girl won 1st place in her class. I really should have specifically said that! I think I even have a picture of her in her cage, too. I'll hunt it down and post it! I showed her in the Open class, and they don't get ribbons. Which is a bummer! So I kept her coop card, instead where he wrote "1". I may let Colter do a bunch more in Juniors-- they get super awesome ribbons and awards!

What a PITA about the company cancelling. I was telling my story of our friends who cancelled two weeks ago and I bought those pies-- which, BTW, were NOT cheap!!! -- I was soooooo angry at them. I'm glad I didn't answer the phone, I would have told them how let down I was and how I had bought the pies and on and on. My DH just told them no problem, and that was it. UGH. And it was such a big deal for me. Sounds like you've really been put out, too. I love CraigsList because I can get things sold-- but I totally HATE how people are so irresponsible and don't call if they decide not to come. I do what you said-- I will rearrange my day so that I can be there for someone to come buy a bird or whatever. Annoying.

OH, and I wanted to post pictures of my new blacks that I got. The breeder I got them from does ONLY black X black breedings. That means they are "clear" and have no splits in their background (like to lavender, paint, or whatever else people are doing to blacks now). They are HARD to come by. And they are costly when you do. She never sells eggs or chicks, only started birds or adult birds. So I think the boy is about a year old and the girl is only a few months old-- still a pullet, not laying yet. SO excited!! I'm now into blacks, which is something I've wanted to be in for a while now, and it's never worked out.

I had to show a large picture of the boy-- he is so impressive-- he has NO back on him! His hackles and tail touch and he has incredible type. I'm in loooooove!

I wonder if I can use it on my husband's head for promoting hair growth?

Yes, it is a PITA, especially if you've rearranged your schedule to accomodate them.

It's not really a girls night thing; they're friends from college who are also now DH's friends, and his sister often joins us for this though we see her plenty often. You all gave me the what-for last time for putting myself last and it really stuck! I've also pushed my family to have their events on our already scheduled Tuesday night family nights instead of sucking up weekend time. Family night is more than often enough to spend with my family. It started when my niece and nephew were little and it was often the only time most of us got to spend with one or both of them. Now my nephew is in college and works, though he often does show up, and my niece is in high school and often has something else going on. It will probably die out when she graduates and goes somewhere out of town to college. Am I evil for hoping it does?

It's not like I don't see and talk to my parents frequently anyway,...

I don't know what's gotten into my chickens, but they've been getting their laying done early lately. They're finally getting finished with the molting and we're getting 3-5 eggs a day now.

Nice new birds.I'm so glad Josie's pullet did well. I know that will make her feel good!
I don't think I could handle the showing thing. Too much work and in my case it would be stress. I've been sitting here reading Craigslist adds. I really need to get some stuff sold but hate to take the time to put an add in. It would so help if I lived closer to a city.

On an overall happier note, my daughter gave birth to her second child this morning.  He is 10 lbs. 4 oz.  He was born at home with a midwife.  I'll be going out (to Reno) to see them later in the week.

Congrats that's a big boy

Hawkeye congrats to you and your son.

We had great news Dh received mri results they said it's an improvement from the one they did in July. So he is due to return in a month. We are still waiting records transfer for radiation . Then he can start radiation

Hawkeye, congrats again on your wins with your birds & the new one! You really have some pretty ones! I just don't think I could do the show thing, it's just way too much work for me & my DH wouldn't like me having to travel to shows. I wouldn't mind just going to one some time if I ever get the chance, but I don't know when that will be. It seems like now that I have all of these birds & animals it's really hard to get away, but I enjoy them so much, they make me happy.

I went to Wichita yesterday & needed to go to Petco for some food & saw a display with tags for the dogs, so I got two of them & they had a machine where you engraved them right there, it was so cool. I got their names on one side & our name & my cell number on the other, so now the two GPs have tags to identify who they belong to at least. We wanted them to have them so when they show up at someone's door like they did the other night they could just look at the tag & know immediately where they belong. My neighbor on the corner just happened to decide to check with me to see if Jasmine was mine when she showed up there. Fortunately we do know all of the people right close to us on this road, but down the hill on the other road is a different story. I do know one person down there that lives right directly in front of our property down there, but I don't know all of the other people because some have changed ownership & there are some renters down there. I don't know the person who has the goats though, so yes I suppose I should go meet them if I have time this week & let them know the dogs won't hurt their goats & what they're for. They were here last night, at least if I can hear them barking out there I know they're here, but some mornings they come back absolutely muddy & wet & there is a bog down that way & I'm sure they have water out for the goats & all & if there is water anywhere these dogs will get in it they love water. They don't care if it's muddy water either. The strange thing about the GPs fur though is that they can be a muddy mess & when they dry out it seems to just fall off & they look like they were never muddy again.

I let my turkeys out for awhile this morning & that tom turkey us the funniest thing, he struts around & shows off like crazy. They were outside of the hoop coop when I was trying to let the oldest guineas out & they were afraid of him. I had to get them to go away from the door before the guineas would come out.

The roof is going up on the breeder coop now, I can't wait for it to be done so I can take some pics.

Danz, I'm sorry about your pig, it sounds like there was something wrong with him from the beginning. I hope you have better luck with the next one. I would like to raise one some time again, that was the best pork I ever had the year we raised that pig.

Well gotta get busy around here, lots to do today, everyone have a great day!

After I put Nu Stock on the other chickens leave it alone and stop picking at it, some times that's why I put it on. Maybe I'm just lucky, let me ask over on the Old Timer's thread they use it, they'll know.

Be ye warned, that thread is highly educational & moves very fast. They are a great group, they are old, blunt, most have been raising chickens for well over 20 years, they don't care for doll house coops, chickens as pets, and those who attempt to raise chickens in their basement, and several of them consider Silkies Toilet Paper. Many years of experience over there.

I guess I wouldn't fit in there. I've been raising chickens for many years if you include a stint back 40 years ago and the present. I probably have as many chickens as any of them could think of but I do love doll house coops --(can't afford them for myself), I love pet chickens, and I have raised chickens in my basement and every other room in the house. I like learning but I don't like KIA kind of people.
I use pine tar for wounds that I want to protect from picking. It is nasty stuff and the chickens know it. But it works wonderfully.
