Here is Mohawk as she continues to grow more beautiful all the time

Magic a sweet little black cochin who is shaping up nicely

Guardian is growing quickly and looking more like a light brahma mix without feathered feet.

Danz, I'm so glad that you're okay. I don't think that they raise your insurance with only one claim. Sigh, this is a rotten time to be vehicle shopping too.

Maidenwolf, your chicks are beautiful and I love the names you come up with.

Hi Josie, good luck getting the coop all figured out. It is taking a lot of time and energy, wish it were easier.

I'm feeling a little disappointed that I shorted myself on some layers for right now with that big sale today. I was caught off guard to say the least. My muscles are sore from chasing down so many, I guess I need to toughen up a bit still. The orps should start laying soonish, but I already don't have enough eggs to eat and I really only had an idea of a couple that I was sure were laying. I guess it's just wait and see now. I'm not going to have many to hatch either so I better make the best of the ones I do have.

I kept my Seramas outside and they did every bit as good as the other birds. The first year I had them I kept them in my basement in pens thinking they would freeze. How dumb. They are just as tough as any other bird. I did loose a couple to heat but never to cold.
I think like some have said, acclimation is the key.
I'm feeling pretty good today other than a sore neck and shoulders. But my neck is mostly metal anyway so it is sore a lot. All it takes is bending the wrong way or moving too fast to get it acting up.
I guess I need to go unload the car at some point today. I think we will have to transport it to some body shop from what the claims guy told me on the phone. It seems a bit futile when I think an adjuster could come here and determine if it needs to be totalled. Probably with the holiday I will be waiting longer than normal for any results.
I talked to my sister last night and she has some leftover fabric and a pattern for making a princess dress. It might save me buying more stuff and I won't have to wait to go shopping. She won't be back in town for a few days but said she would try to drop it by today. I have a few things here and some tulle I can use for the over skirt. It would be great if by a stroke of luck I could get this thing made before Saturday when we are meeting my youngest son, wife and granddaughter for their Christmas. If I can use her pattern I can just make another dress later on with the one I ordered.
OH dear! It just started snowing like crazy!!! I was hoping it would wait a few hours.
I was up a good deal of the night. My very old kitty took another turn for the worst last night. I can't help but cry when I see him suffer. He is such a precious boy. I hope he can hang on another couple days without being in too much pain so DH can dig a hole and build a burial box for him. I just bought him some special food last night hoping to help him hang on. He won't even smell it...let alone eat anything. Loosing 2 very old pets in 3 months is just too much. My other girl who is almost 16 seems to be hanging on pretty good. I just hope she doesn't pass real soon. It's like loosing some a couple of my kids.

Oh Danz I am so sorry about your kitty. He is in my thoughts. I know what you mean, they are like kids and losing one tears your heart out.

Thank you, I cant resist chickies. Oh and dont worry I am collecting eggs for you to hatch. I have 10 so far, probably 20 by time you all come out and that hatch is all yours.

I hope everyone is safe today with all this snow. DH said roads are terrible.

mammahen's DH and a couple of her daughters were here this morning. I took them for the tour around. It was enjoyable even though it was snowing and most of the birds were in their houses.
We've had quite a bit of snow but even though it is still snowing it is melting. I don't mind snow like this cause the wind isn't blowing.
I hauled in so much stuff out of the car. I can't believe I haul so much around with me. Also had the groceries from last night as well. Now I have to put it away and clean up the mud I tracked in.
I really need to concentrate on cleaning and finish wrapping presents.
But, I think I need to fix myself a cup of hot peppermint cocoa. I wish I had time to sit and do some needlework or something today. It just seems like a perfect thing to do on a snowy day.

Danz, I'm so sorry about the deer, but glad you're OK & the eggs made it. What kind of eggs did you get from her, I can't remember? I had to put my little Swedish Flower Hen pullet I got from Eileen out in my main coop for now until she grows some. I tried to put her in with the other SFH, but those darned roosters in there are too mean. That group of birds all grew up together, so they're all used to each other & putting an outsider in there just wasn't to their liking. I need to get rid of two of those roosters soon because there are 6 roosters in that pen counting the SFH & the Cream Legbars. I plan to keep both of the Cream Legbar roosters for now so I have a backup until I can maybe hatch some more & see if I get one I like better. I liked Eileen's Cream Legbar roosters better, I may get one from her later on & that would be good too to have a little different blood line. She offered to sell me eggs when I was there, but I really don't want to be hatching eggs this time of year. It's enough that I already have two chicks in the house right now, they're noisy & messy & I'm not even sure where I'm going to put them when they outgrow this crate. I may have to do what Eileen did & bring in my livestock tank. Won't my DH love that!

We only got about an inch or so of snow here & that's fine with me. If we get much more than that we can't get our cars out of this place with the steep driveway we have. I hate being trapped in here too while my DH takes the old truck & goes to work. I thought about buying a 4 wheel drive or all wheel drive vehicle when we bought the new car, but we ended up not doing it. Maybe some day we can afford to have a new driveway built.

We had some wild bird visitors during the night after it snowed. From their tracks it looked like turkeys. There were tracks all over the place, it looked like they just walked all over & went down to visit my other turkeys in the pen & then left beside the garage & back into the trees behind there. I'm kind of surprised the dogs let them come in here because they usually don't. They must have been looking for food is all I can think for a reason for them to come in here. At first when I saw the first tracks I thought maybe something had let my turkeys out, so I went down to make sure they were still in the pen, but they were.

My chickens are having none of coming out of the coop or run today. I opened the door & they all came to the door & mostly looked out & went back. There were a couple that came outside & ran around in a circle & came back almost immediately. Even the ones that are usually the bravest about coming out in any kind of weather are staying in today.

Well everyone try to stay warm, it actually didn't feel that bad to me when I went out, but I was all bundled up in my winter garb too.

Hawkeye, I got the darn flu again! After I got over it the last time and was feeling well, I went through the house and disinfected walls and switches, doors and knobs, baseboards and all bedding. Still, I got the flu again as did 2 DD's, 1 DS and DH! Unbelievable! My Doctor met me at his office Sunday morning to give me IV fluids and save me another trip to the ER that would have taken forever since flu season is at its peak. I had a flu shot when I was in the hospital and my DH has had a flu shot but it doesn't seem to matter. I had a temp of 102.7 and had to get into the bathtub to bring it down. I was expecting to feel like I was freezing, instead my body warmed up the bath water and it was quite comfortable. So then I had to stand wet and freezing to cool down but the water evaporated very quickly and my temp went up to 103. I had taken Ibuprofen an hour before so I decided it wasn't going to work so called the Dr. exchange. I felt bad because my temp finally went down to 101.6 by the time he called. I can't believe the temps on this flu -- DS had 103.8! Scary! Once I got the temp under control my worst problem was dehydration. I was drinking but it didn't seem to matter. I couldn't get enough in with the high temps to compensate. Doctor wanted to check me for pneumonia so that's how I ended up at the Dr's. office on Sunday morning. He said the Dr's there alternate on Sat. & Sun's so that patients don't have to go to the ER. I never knew! I think it's really awesome of them, however.

Okay, so lost my train of thought. All that talk of how I disinfected everything and still we all got sick again, so I got a bright idea. Anyone who gets sick wears one of those dust mask things and I'm spritzing the air with vinegar water. Ha! Can you imagine? It's truly ridiculous but I am determined not to catch this crap again. Were it not for Bag Balm, I would have washed the skin right off of my hands! My kids will joke about their germophob mother one day. I don't even care!

My fever broke last night after taking Tamiflu yesterday, so I have high hopes of feeling human again soon. Hawkeye, sure hope you're feeling better. This flu is wicked!

I just finished catching up reading and wanted to say my sympathies are with you Danz and Sunflower. Danz, I'm so sorry about your cat and your birds! I'm so glad you weren't seriously injured by that deer -- those deer accidents can be very bad. Of course, your poor car was seriously injured and that's going to be a major pain in the butt for sure. Sunflower, I hope that hawk disappears. That's so disheartening when we work so hard to give our birds everything that's good for them and then a wretched predator just snatches them up. I just can't stand to pen my birds during the day, although I know they would be safer. It's so much healthier for them to be able to free range until a stupid predator comes along. I don't know what to do with hawks. I've had my problems here with them but only lost one bird, ultimately, but I have no idea why it was only one.

Trish sounds like you had a good time with your DH. I love that you picked up birds! LOL!

Happy New Year everybody!

Josie, sounds like you guys will have your pens sorted out! It's a great idea to have time to plan it now.

MaidenWolf-- great pictures of your birds! :)

I am really sorry about your kitty and of course the deer. Your luck is just like mine. :( That peppermint cocoa sounds REALLY good right now. All of our snow melted after a couple of hours. It was great for a while. But honestly, I'm glad it melted, we needed the "water" for the ground.

Karen, I'm so sorry you caught it again! That is just what I did, too!!! I had flu last week and was getting over it. I had ONE good day where I felt great and started cleaning the house like a mad woman. I had all the bathrooms cleaned and even got caught up on laundry. I got so much done! I Lysol'd all the switches, faceplates, door handles and cleaned all the faucets, handles, etc. I didn't want to reinfect myself. Well... then the VERY next day, sick again. Anyway, yesterday was so miserable, I was in so much pain I took a Lortab, which I NEVER do for just pain, but this was bizarre how much pain I was in. My temp was in the 100's, but didn't climb much higher. I went to the Dr this morning. I now have flu, a sinus infection AND.... Bronchitis. The trifecta! Only me. He wouldn't give me Tamiflu though, since mine has been supposedly ongoing. SO I'm just on antibiotics, steroids for the bronchitis/sinus infection. Hoping the flu will release it's hold on me somewhere in there. I'm miserable! My ears are so clogged up, I can't hear well and I'm just a mess. Just got done with a nice looooong bath. Can't remember the last time I had a bath, but I wanted to take a "detox" bath to see if it might help. Guess it doesn't work right away, I feel no better.

It's snowing again out there. Hopefully it will all melt too and give us more water for all the ground out there.

I'm sorry for those of you that are sick, I hope you feel better again soon. Karen that is just the pits you all got sick again. Is it a respiratory thing or the intestinal stuff? The flu shot only covers whichever flu they predicted for this year since the vaccine has to be made ahead of time, plus it takes a full two weeks to kick in after you get it. We got ours right before we left for our cruise. I sure didn't want to be on a ship with 2000 other people without getting it. We did have a small outbreak of the Norwalk virus on the ship, but they seemed to keep it contained so that everybody didn't get it. They are very good about keeping hand sanitizers all over the ship. They squirt it in your hands before you go into the diningroom or buffet to eat. I was very conscious of touching railings & door handles & made sure to wash my hands a LOT. We managed to get through it without catching anything thank goodness. I know that they do confine sick people to their rooms & have the Dr. make visits there instead of them coming out.

It's now raining here, so I guess it will be slick in the morning after it all freezes again. We sure can use the moisture, but I hate the freezing part. I still have the marans rooster who is honking & I went out with the VetRx & rubbed it over his beak & wattles so it would drift upwards & help him breathe better. This weather sure isn't helping him I'm sure. I would hate to lose him at this point, he sure is a beautiful guy. He is one from Eileen & I just love him. I also dripped some VetRx along on the roosts some so it will just help with any of the chickens who need it. I figured the body heat of the chickens in there would help to kind of spread the fragrance around. I have my oils to make some more, but haven't gotten it all mixed up yet. I should have enough to make a good sized batch, not as much as you got Danz, but a lot more than those tiny bottles you buy of the VetRX.
