Consolidated Kansas

I get some monster eggs once in a while. Particularly after a bird goes through a molt and has started laying again. Many that I can't close the lid on a large size egg carton. By the way Sharol I have 3 of these little campines here. One definite rooster.( Let me know if you think you might be interested in them later.)They are so pretty but I'm not sure I am going to have a place to breed them. I'd let you have all of them for what I had in the eggs if you were interested. They are such pretty birds. If I don't do some more downsizing I may end up living alone!

Besides I
still want to meet you. I keep thinking I'll meet you for coffee in Emporia but for the past few months I haven't done anything but run. It amazes me what a difference there is in egg sizes from chickens.
Maidenwolf how are your babies doing today? I sure hope the others are surviving.

I got up at 4:45 this AM cause I was worried about all I had to do today. That was really dumb because I got to bed late and I'll get tired early and be worthless later. I worked for a while but am back in here again for a few minutes. I'm waiting on a phone call so don't want to be running vacuum or I won't hear my phone. That is my excuse for the moment anyway. Not that I couldn't be doing other things!!!
Oh for those who have an interest I learned the Gardner Auction is March 16th this year.

Cute chicks everyone, I love seeing chick pics!

Sharol, I got two eggs like that yesterday, wow, yeah I feel sorry for the hens too. One of my Barred Rocks has been laying just huge eggs for a long time & often they are double yolkers. I figure as big as the eggs are & being double yolked she probably will wear out faster than some of the others so I got two new Barred Rock pullets from Eileen recently to get them growing to take over just in case. I love those birds, they're just egg laying machines. Your little Campine is a cute little thing, I miss the one I got at Yates Center, she was wild as a march hare & never would go into my coop so eventually something got her in the night. I really enjoyed the funny little sounds she made.

Well I finally came down with the crud, I just knew my DH would give it to me & he succeeded. He went to work today, but he spent most of the last 3 days in bed & he was grouchy as an old bear. I had hoped to go out & work on my coop inside today, but it's colder & I'm not feeling well, so I think I'm going to lay around today & see how I feel tomorrow. We're supposed to have two 50 degree days in a row before the next cold front comes, so maybe I can get more work done in there those two days if I'm not too sick. We had to postpone going to see my DH's mom since he was sick all weekend, so hopefully I won't be sick the next one or he will be upset. We were supposed to go down & see her for her birthday, she is 91 now.

Frizzled Pink, I just love the little SFH I got from Eileen, she is the friendliest bird I have & I can go right up to her & pick her up, she is always under my feet too. What color did you get from her?

Danz- I did some research on the olandsk. Beautiful birds and I would be proud to have a d'ulandsk.
All my bantams are doing well. Lost some and they are reshipping on wed. I will get more pics for everyone to throw some opinions at. Here are a couple more resent d'ulandsk.. Also yes they all look this way

Wow they have an unbelievable amount of white on them. They should be quite pretty. I hope your daughter isn't disappointed. I have eggs now that have been laid since I brought the olandsk in. In fact I have a couple hatching today. I also have a couple eggs hatching from the Orpington pen. It will be interesting to see if they are lemon or lavender or lemonder. I was just testing for fertility and didn't expect these first pullet eggs to be fertile. I guess they will be orpington regardless but the colors may be something strange.
I really need to get serious about getting pens divided. I only have to shut a couple gates and make sure the right color of orps are on the right side. The d'uccles and swedish are going to require me to hang a gate and install a panel but it could be done fairly easily. I'll have to move one of the other later cause I have two colors of d'uccles in there. The porcelains are all too young to breed yet but it shouldn't be too long.

She isnt disappointed at all. We think they are beautiful. It took us awhile to narrow it down but after showing her what they are mixed with she was thrilled. They will be unique for sure. I cant wait to see full coloring on these guys. Here is a pic of one of the mixes you sent with them. It looks silver laced something

Yesterday, my Delaware laid a huge egg. It is 6 1/8" in circumference and 3" long -- 96 grams. Yikes. Glad I don't lay eggs.

WOW! that sucker is huge!

I think when my layers all wear out/die, that I'm just going to order all barred rocks. I can't believe how they lay and I love the brown eggs. Makes me feel like a real chicken farmer! LOL What would be neat is to figure out a way to make a smaller bird that layed the same size egg, but ate LESS food than those barred rocks! Sigh. They are piggies! So sorry you are sick and I hope you get over it quickly! I agree, best to lay around and not push yourself or you're going to regret it.

Awwww, I love the eye liner!

Danz-- where the heck did your multi go?!? I am not any good if I get up really early. I crash hard around afternoon-- by 2pm. Yesterday I must have still be recovering, because after church, lunch and coming home with the kids, I layed down in bed and slept for 2 hours-- slept HARD. I am really starting to feel the chick fever around here and it's really making me want to start hatching! My girls aren't laying, so there is my hold up. Besides, I promised myself nothing until late Feb or early March. And really, I need to work on my breeding pens. I need to draw it up and show you-- I bet it's similar to what you have! Josie described them and I think I had the same idea!

The Original Poultry Bid has people saying they will be having Mandarin and Wood ducklings this Spring when they start laying/hatching. If anyone is interested, it might be best to contact them and get on their list. I wouldn't have mentioned it, but saw people talking about the Mandies and Wood ducks recently. Danz, you have BOTH of those, right?

Yikes! Poor girl, bet there was a big egg song for that one!!
LOL it was a 2 yolker, but one of the yolks didn't survive cracking the egg.

She has occasionally laid these monsters.
Bummer, hope you feel better soon!

I really need to go load up the recycling and get to the dump. Ugh. I am seriously dragging my heels. I hate going because I have to ask for help because most of the stuff in the trailer is too heavy for me to lift on my own.

I need to move Lucie's crate out to the garage and kick her out there. She has been barking at the crack of dawn because she wants breakfast and it is really starting to tick me off. I haven't been sleeping well because the getting quite large and strong jelly bean wakes me up kicking in the wee hours of the morning so about the time I fall back asleep the dumb dog starts carrying on downstairs. So she can go bark to nobody in particular in the garage!

Our washer and dryer are finally being delivered tomorrow, that will teach me to buy something on black Friday. They have pushed back the delivery because the washer wasn't in three times now. I think it is coming for real tomorrow.

Danz-How are your pups doing?
