Consolidated Kansas

You know that may have some truth to it. My two fussiest babies are my most intelligent children and they were both breast fed. They are getting the perfect diet so nothing else matters. I never could eat things like lettuce and fresh veggies or lots of spice while breastfeeding though. It would really give them a tummy ache. Also if it could cause me any digestive problems it would cause it for them.
I worked late outside and didn't get a lot done. I did change my shoes by the way.
Lizzy the black snakes around here are huge. They are known as "good" snakes to idiots. They do eat mice but they prefer nice freshly laid eggs even more. This one wasn't the biggest I've seen. About 5 foot long when I picked it up and carried it to throw over the fence. It seemed really big when I was wrestling it though. And they can also be very aggressive.
We do have rattlers in this area. Luckily I've only seen one here at my place.. And I've been seeing several bull snakes too. It seems like the snakes are out in hoards this year.
We're supposed to get major storms this evening. I guess I should try to get some work done earlier today.

Lizzy we have black snakes here that get big. Have seen them 6 & 8 ft plus.
Danz....lol....you should do a reality show!
The black racer snakes we have around here get to about 8 foot also. They're as fast as a rabbit, though, even at 8 feet long.

I'm glad to hear you changed your shoes! Your black snakes sound a lot like our black snakes, except that the only time ours would turn aggressive is if they're trapped. They are FAST, though - fast like a rabbit, so it is quite difficult to trap them. I've seen non-racer snakes move at a pretty fast pace, so I'm still amazed you caught that snake. You've only seen one rattlesnake on your property...and you've been there how long??? We saw several rattlesnakes in our yard the first summer we lived here. So far this year, we've only seen one rattlesnake near our property, but we've seen LOTS of bull snakes. I heard a rumor that bull snakes eat rattlesnakes. I wonder if that's true. Another thing I find odd, last year we saw several small (i.e. baby) snakes. This year, all the snakes we've seen (except one grass snake) have been 3+ feet.

I've seen tons of snakes this year. We have some black racers as well as these black snakes. I believe they are often called a rat snake sometimes too. The black racers have more of an ashy gray color on the black compared to the more common black snakes around here. Both species eat eggs though which isn't a good thing.
I have been here at this house 5 years. We don't have prime real estate for rattlers but a quarter mile away they are thick. The rattlers around here seem to like rocky areas. There is a rock quarry near and they are thick. Also at the nuclear plant that has gravel everywhere rather than bare grass they are really thick. They like areas they can crawl under rocks or on top of them to sun themselves.

Wow Danz- great job!!
Sounds like everyone is also going through the broodies. I put the incubator up and girls start sitting left and right. Now I need to build a few more nest boxes lol. Oh well I don't mind.
I am still looking for a couple of guinea. anyone know of any closer to the mo/ks border?

OK you guys you're making my skin crawl with all of this talk of snakes, yuck I hate snakes! We live on a ridge & our house is built into the hill here so we have rocks galore. I do know that snakes like to come out on the rocks & sun. The other day I had someone here to pick up a rooster I was giving away & they told me there was a snake in the driveway when they came up from the pens. It was gone by the time I came up, just as well. We do have a type of rattle snake in the Flint Hills, but I have not seen one here & have lived here almost 15 years. That's not to say they're not here, just that I haven't seen one. We do have a lot of different types of snakes here though & I have been told we do have copperheads. Now, that's enough snake talk.

My DH just got back a bit ago from running in the June Bug Jog in Winfield, it's just a little local run they have each year & he won in his age class & got two full 4 day tickets to the Walnut Valley Festival for this year. That's about $200 worth of tickets that he got. It's the big blue grass music festival they have had here in Winfield for 42 years this year. We have a town full of people during that time because people come from all over the US & other countries to attend, it's a big deal here. We have gone to it in the past but haven't gone the last couple years. The nice thing for us is that we can go whenever we want & come home & go back. We don't camp there like most people because we live here. The campgrounds are packed to the brim at that time in every available space & more. It was really bad the year it flooded out the campgrounds & they were having to relocate people to the lake. The fairgrounds here are right beside the river & if it rains too much it does flood the campgrounds & sometimes gets far enough up to flood the buildings. It has done that several times since I've been here.

Maidenwolf if I were closer you could get a couple from me. I haven't had as many this year as normal though.
I guess if I had been bitten by a snake I would hate them but they really aren't something on my list of fears. I don't like them but only because they surprise me now and then and because they eat eggs and little birds. Now a spider is a whole 'nother thing. Give me the bug spray!!!
I have been sitting here looking at stuff and haven't done a thing this morning. I have some birds hatching in the hatcher right now. I loaded it up yesterday.
I have a group of shipped eggs hatching surprisingly. I need to go back and figure out exactly what they are. LOL

My grandpa used to talk about the black racers following him around the farm. If he turned around, they'd turn around and go the other way. When he turned back around and started walking, they'd turn back around and follow him again. I don't think I'd have liked that!

Congrats to your hubby Trish. I used to run but injuries ended that.

You still run, you just run lawnmowers!

We are in the process of fixing splay legs splayed leg :) she cant get up so she is much more fun to hold, and I get to force water her because if she goes anywhere near the water dish she will probblu drown. But I think her legs will get better in time besides I think she enjoys the constant attention and TLC

Ok, that would be just plain freaky. I wonder if snakes can get rabies...
