Mother Nature played a cruel trick last night . The radar last night looked like a big gob of rain was heading right for us ,so I went to bed thinking happy thoughts. Then this morning all we had gotten was 11 raindrops that just rearranged the dust on the cars ! Grrr!!

Cream legbars are really easy going birds. I never pampered mine but I have heard several people say they are. My girls just sat in the shade most of the day and were really easy going. The boys were a little more adventurous. I figure if you have a good sweet rooster he is a treasure on his own. I've never seen the boys fight with other roosters.
Do you think he will stay sweet like that over the next few months as he gets to breeding age? I have not heard him crowing or trying to do anything else. That means I will have to build another pen and get some hens. lol

If you have some white egg layers you could cross him with them for blue egg layers. I have an orpington rooster and Orpington roos can be total butt heads once they reach maturity. This one was sweet when he was young. He is about a year old and breeding and he is still the sweetest bird out there. He loves to be held and petted. I'd bet he does stay sweet as long as he doesn't have to fight other roosters.

We can't get her to eat. I even broke down and tried to give her bread--her favorite treat. She used to "fly" to take bites from my hand. Today she looked at the bread like, "What is that?" I held it right next to her beak, and she finally took a little peck. She's inside our house in her own little area, with shavings, water, and feed. Hopefully we aren't stressing her more. We have the lights low and are trying to keep the sounds low, too.

She honestly looks better than she did--I know that sounds strange since she's STILL not right.

The only other roosters I have are SFH. I got rid of everything else so that I didn't have to worry about cross breeding and then found out what this one is. He was raised with the SFH so he seems to be good with them.

I don't have any white egg layers either.

Chickies be sure she gets liquid if she won't eat. I put sugar in the water as well if they need some nutrition. Your main focus right now is to keep her organs from shutting down while she heals.
I just had my blue slate turkeys go and sold a couple guineas in the process. No more guineas other than keets are going now. I am down to 3-4 of them I think. I'm not even sure I have a male left now. I like to keep a few around for ticks and such. I need to get back out there and get busy. It is really miserable hot out there. I need to see if I can find some more fans.

I just came in after being out 2 hours trying to get all the birds & animals water & cool them down. I'm pretty overheated myself now. I came in to cool down for awhile & fix lunch. It's just miserable out there today, no air moving & really hot. The birds are all standing around the water pans in the yard. I have several in different places. The turkeys were standing in the duck water. My poor dogs are suffering today too. I have a pool for them but haven't seen them get in it.

Last summer when it was 116 for a couple of days, I made homemade electrolyte solution for my girls.

HOMEMADE ELECTROLYTE SOLUTION

1/2 teaspoon salt substitute

1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon table salt
1 tablespoon sugar
1 gallon water

Be sure it is completely dissolved and replace the water with it during the day. The article tells about it.
