Ducks are like chickens, they don't lay every day. I've noticed particularly with my cayugas cause they lay a green egg I may get an egg a day for weeks then they won't give me but maybe one egg in the next two weeks. Not sure why but they are pretty sporadic.
Make sure they have lots of water. It tends to help them crank out the eggs.

Hello,

I know a few of you are located in Olathe. Has anyone heard of any change in the laws concerning backyard chickens?

Thank you!
Kimberly

South side of town and I am aware of 2 others besides myself that have them. I have 2 laying and 3 more new chicks. Was informed that Olathe allows 5, no roos.

But the topic keeps coming up so it seems may not be as clear as mud yet.

On a different note, was at TSC couple days back and was informed that this year has been a boom year for people in town coming in and walking out with chicks. Makes me think that Olathe truly does allow, or does that mean so many more of us are illegals?

We had issues with the last year, and we started the painful procedure of getting a special permit. We haven't continued the process yet, but I was hoping the laws would change before paying close to $400 to keep my chickens.

I hatched 4 more baby Sebbies yesterday. Now the oldest one has friends that look more like him. He was pretty interested in tasting his new friends. Everything goes in a Sebbies mouth just like a human baby. Except they never outgrow it!

I got a bunch more eggs in the incubators yesterday. They are all full up even after candling as far back as I could. At least the huge pile if off the kitchen counter now.
I started building a new chicken house yesterday to separate some breeders. I got the basic outside frame all done.I'm going to be busy today so I won't have time to work on it any more.

Well, the county 4H Spring Poultry Show went well. I helped with the Quiz Bowl again this year, and learned something new. That is my goal: to learn at least one new thing each time. The Silver Laced Wyandottes roo I gave my like-a-son only got a white ribbon. The judge did not have much to say about him at all, positive or negative, other than something about the points on his comb. They are pea combed, so I have no idea how to count points on those combs, nor can I find anything that says they need a certain number of comb points on a SLW. :S
Wyandottes are rose combed, sometimes the differences get pretty tricky, hope this helps
The rose comb is a fleshy, solid, tube-shaped comb that extends from the top of the beak to the back of the head, ending in a pointed spike. The front two-thirds of this comb is covered in small, round bumps.

Dominiques, Hamburgs, Red Caps, Sebrights, and Wyandottes have a rose comb. In several breeds, like Wyandottes, the spiked portion of the comb remains close to the head.

There are also "Rose Comb" breeds of Leghorns, Black and White Minorcas, Rhode Island Reds and Rhode Island Whites.

The pea comb is a medium-size comb. It features three ridges running lengthwise from the top of the beak to the top of the head, with the middle ridge a bit higher than the others.

Araucanas, Ameraucanas, Aseels, Brahmas, Buckeyes, Cornish, Sumatras and Shamo all have pea combs.

Very quiet on BYC the last couple days. I've been building a little coop when I could find the time the last 3 days. I hope to have the darned thing done sometime this weekend. Tomorrow is another busy day so I won't have time to do much then. I'm designing as I build and am kind of having fun with it.

It has been quiet, I guess everyone is busy outside. I wish I had your energy Danz. I need to be building another hoop coop, but I don't have the wood I need yet. I need my DH to go with me to get it because there are some really long pieces of lumber I need. I hope to get it done soon because I have birds that need to go in there.

Today we had to make a run to Wichita for an appt. & shopping, so it felt like my day was blown.

I could use another hoop coop myself but that is still another project down the road. I need one for roosters to live in so I can use the other pens I have for separating breeds. My focus on building this little coop is to build it as economical as I can but still have it functional and hopefully kind of cute. I still need to separate some colors for breeding that I haven't gotten done yet. Having a late winter really threw me behind. I also wanted to get some more garden planted which I haven't gotten done yet either. It's been so busy this week. I feel like I am meeting myself coming and going. I did take my camera out and took some pictures today while I built. So maybe I can post them when this project finally gets done.
