My name is Aryk, I'm 30 years old, I live in Topeka, married to my wonderful wife Amber, father of two beautiful children (son Mykel 6 and daughter Mykena 18 months), I am a photographer and full time BFA student at Washburn University... There's a little more on my page, and the pics I took of my chicks earlier are there as well (except the fizzle I purchased tonight, I'll post pics of it soon)!

Hi, Aryk & Amber! Nice to have you here!

I'll have to go check out your page.

Hi every one, I've not been keeping up on BYC much the past few weeks but I wanted to let everyone know that last night a turn of events has set my little farm back a bit. Somewhere between the hours or 5pm and 7pm I was in watching "The Good The Bad and The Ugly" when right around 7pm I heard one of my birds making her stress call. Thinking the rooster was just up to no good I didn't rush to the window, all though I did get up and check while still watching my movie. Once I made it to the window I came all most face to face with a German shepherd and one of my Red Sexlinks in its mouth. Well long story short we didn't have a gun or anything on hand to take care of this so I did my best on foot. After a long walk around our farm, up and down the roadway plus the farm land around us we found 15 dead chicks. All of them in what looked to be, just for fun kills. We found 2 that are alive but badly hurt and are in a pen together. I'm now down to 11 birds and have a broken heart for all the lives lost. Worst of all I had 1 Turken that I wanted to take to fair this year and she was still very young and in now dead. The Dog bit her one time and moved on to the next kill. Today I'm stopping by the pawn shop and taking home a .22. The Ottawa police said if the dog is on our land to shoot it.

I'm sooooo sorry!!

What a horrible experience!

I would definitely encourage you to get a baby monitor for remote warnings- it has saved my birds multiple times. I do know that makes me look like a crazy lady, but it works!

I hope you can get a perimeter fence up to stop that threat from being an issue- I really believe in that first layer of protection being the most important.

Bad dog!! Bad dog owners!!!
