josie, I know Candace at Bar 6 Diamond Ranch where I got my GPs from has fiber goats. She has a web site so if you do a search you can find it & email her. She can tell you all about the goats she raises. I know she sells the fiber, but I don't know all that much about it all, she could tell you more. I'm sorry about Amelia's teething problems, that's tough on the young ones. I actually got a pair of bantam cochins I hatched trying to get mille fleur, but I think only the rooster is going to be that coloring, the pullet is just buff. I may get some chicks from someone later on. I usually don't like bantams at all, but these things are the cutest little things & they don't know they're not the same size as the other chicks.
danz, I hope your barn cats work out for you & you can get rid of some of the varmints that have been plaguing you. If you can find somewhere raised high enough your dogs can't get up there like I have on top of my rabbit hutch, that's a great place to feed cats. They can jump up there but the dogs can't. Mine go running for the hutch when they see me coming with their food. Even the kittens learn pretty fast where to go to eat & learn to climb up there pretty young.
All the talk about garden stuff makes me want to have one, but till we get our fence up & get these goats & sheep confined in their pasture it does no good to even think about it. I have one tomato plant that I planted & we'll see if I get tomatoes before it freezes or the goats decide to eat it again. Maybe next year when they're all out away from the house I can figure out where I want to put my garden & fence off an area to keep the chickens out. The one I had before was just too big for me with my arthritis & all so I really need smaller raised beds. Figuring out where to put them on this hilly ground though is a real challenge. I just don't have many places that are level around here. I would love to do some of those I've seen in the garden catalog that are in containers, but even with that you would have to keep the chickens out of them, they would fly right up & scratch out all of the plants & dirt just like they do everywhere else. I love my chickens, but boy are they destructive on plants.
I'm always hoping nobody shows up here when I'm out doing chores outside because I have my work clothes on that aren't the most presentable & I'm always sweaty & dirty anyway after not long at all. I end up with mud down my legs & I'm a mess. I always ask people to give me notice if they're coming, but I have had people show up once in awhile unannounced & they get what they get when they do that.
