Consolidated Kansas

I am wondering what everyone here in Kansas specializes in. I have been impressed with the Gardner ks biennial sale. Big props to the HOAGBA as they put on these sales !. I would have to say Topeka will have a swap atleast twice a month this coming year and would like to see more vendors with quality instead of quantity. #andysnorthtscswap . Premier farm and home will also have a sale once month. Tractor supply's is the third Sunday of every month

I used to go to the swaps in Topeka but I just couldn't make a profit by the time I drove up there. I like the one at premier but the one at TSC seemed to bring in less than desirable sellers. Most of the birds offered there were hatchery or mixed and I just don't fit in with those or sell at those prices. If you look at the bottom of most people's posts they will list what they have. Of course I never keep mine updated. Gardner is great and I always go. This past fall was a total let down. There wasn't the numbers and definitely not the quality there has always been. That sale was a total failure as far as I could see. I hope spring is much better. I plan to take some birds if I don't sell out beforehand.

Hardscaper87 my breeds are all listed in my signature line, I try to keep mine updated but I did notice just now that I don't have the mille fleur & mottled cochins on there, I'll have to go fix that if I have room. I don't end up going to very many swaps, I sell most of my chicks from ads on the swaps online & traveling with them just isn't profitable for me. There are a couple that are close enough for me to go to but they start early in the morning & I'm not a morning person with the schedule we have here. I agree with Danz in that there are a lot of mixed & hatchery birds at the swaps as well & they sell dirt cheap so I can't compete with that either since I have pure bred birds & many are rare breeds. I would rather just not expose my birds to diseases & stress them by moving them when I don't have to.

I need to move my Mille Fleur Cochin chicks out to the pen outside today. It always worries me when I have to move chicks outside at first till they get acclimated. It's not too bad out there right now but of course it will be tonight. There will be more for them to snuggle up with out there though & they do have a nice dog house to get in if they want. I don't have the house ready yet for the Mottled Cochins, I need to repair the top of it first before I can put them out there. Maybe I can work on that today.

Just popping in to wish all chicken peeps the Happiest of New Years

Danz-i am rooting for Winston and Britt

Trish-----ooooooohhhh wanna see your polka dot and mille babies. Please share. Ya' know i love me a cochin :) but mine are all grown up now.

Thanks Frizzled for the NY's wishes, I sure hope next year is better for me, I need a break from injuries for sure. Here is a pic of my little Cochins, not a very good one, I just had my phone with me. I wish you could see their feet. Oh & I haven't brought the Mottled one out yet, they're still in the brooder. Your Cochins are pretty!

I acquired 3 pullets yesterday from a friend that were hatched this spring. I have been getting a few from him since he is going a different direction with breeding & I need a few replacements for my laying flock. There are 2 really pretty EEs & a BLRW & they're in quarantine now in my temporary pen. My oldest EE out in my laying flock is getting old & I don't think she lays much any more. My egg customers love the green eggs. I will have to think about who is going out of my laying flock soon but I think I will wait till warmer weather to butcher. I really am about at my max for laying birds till I clear some older ones out then I'll decide if I need more or if I think I have enough. I'm still getting eggs but not very many right now. I have a waiting list for them at the moment.
