Well started raining yesterday fairly early then turned to snow/slush last night.

It was only misting/drizzling when I went to bed so I didn't worry to much about the young baby peas who are haven't learned to go in coop yet in foul weather. 2 am I wake for my nightly bathroom trip and I hear it raining hard! Drat! I look out and 4 babies, two teens and their chick mom. Sigh. Still raining, no snow yet but slick clay mud tween deck and coop. Well it had to be done. Luckily when we downsized, I put the birds in a shed about 15 ft from house. Still slid in that slick mud with peababy under each arm. I toss em in and they are soaked, but shake off like "why didn't we know this was a dry spot?". Idiot birds! Two babies know to go in but the other four are a little hardheaded.:he

One looked of my little girls looked a little off, I did what I could do for her and she is back in coop. They are just getting too big to bring in and my sis and I both have allergies to them. House is just to small, I need a mudroom or something for hospital birds.

Supposed to get super cold tomorrow night, down to 3!!!! :(

Danz, so sorry about your cat, they are so much part of family at that point. Hugs to you.

Trish good luck on your surgery. I know what you mean by missing caretaking for your animals. My sister did it all for me over Christmas when I was hospitalized. She also was taking care of me, driving 2 hours to hospital back and forth for 8 days, then caking me etc for about a month. I did lose a couple birds as no one keeps an eye out like you do, but even if she realized they were in trouble, she really had too much on her plate to doctor them as well.

Prairie, hope you find your dogs. Mine hates the rain. Funny he will jump in a creek or pond but hates getting his face wet. Go figure.

London and Willow decided that since it was a cool blustery day that it was a perfect day for an outing! They're both gone and don't come when DH went out and called and drove around looking for them.

it's possible they're around and just sacked out but I'm about worried sick!! They did this the last rainy day we had as well. Willow will have to go back in with the goats for a couple weeks and maybe she'll learn to stay home. London didnt leave the place before and he still doesn't if she's not leading him off.

Those dogs probably found a nice sheltered place to take a nap. I know mine have been traveling some lately cause they brought back a deer hide and some bones someone had field dressed. I know that wasn't on my land.

I've got some youngsters too. But they are inside thank goodness. I've been trying to buy something for a shelter for them without any luck.

She was the last of my really old cats. I think she was more special to my sons than any one. I took the chickens way out and just sent them a message to tell them.

Well my DH spent the entire day in the cold and rain for me for nothing. I was trying to buy a grain bin. It was nearly the last thing to sell and it went for more than the cost of a new one. I guess the new property owner bought it cause he didn't realize it was selling. I guess I'll be looking some more.

Sorry s shelter isn't coming through for you, danz. I know you said you had some late hatch peas too. How old are yours? Mine hatched in early to mid October. They are getting big but still real small in my eyes. When my appendix burst ,they had to get thrown in the main coop but thankfully we had one of those tiny orschelns coops to separate them with a heat lamp. Pot dis got stuck with the job, not an easy task by yourself!

We have got about 5 inches of snow here! Was rain first so will be fun when it freezes, ice under snow equals slick!!!!

I hope your dogs came home. I know mine find anywhere they can to hole up for the day & sleep after working all night. They don't mind the cold one bit but really don't like staying out in the rain all day.

thundrdancr, that sounds like something I would have to do in the rain & mud. I have had to go out at midnight before or later to check on young birds that didn't have the sense to go in out of the rain, so I know how that goes. Yeah I really can't wait to get this over & get through recovery so I can do my own chores & stop having to listen to whining. Nobody takes care of your critters like you for sure.

Danz, I'm sorry you didn't get the grain bin, I know you could have used that.

It didn't snow here but it has rained all day long, just enough to make it a muddy mess out there. I was concerned about falling when I went out to feed the goats & sheep. I had my cane & that made me feel a bit better, but it was slick in some places. I guess I won't be going down there for awhile till I can get around better. I will miss checking on everything.

I'm thinking the last of mine were hatched about the same time. They usually hatch a late batch in August or September but these were really late.
We've got lots and lots of rain and it's still coming down. It's sitting just above freezing and the wind is blowing really hard. When the extra cold moves in were sunk. Right now we just have a huge wet nasty cold lake out there. The geese and ducks aren't even out playing in it this morning.
I've been out rescuing birds in the rain too many times. I've also lost many young birds that were moved to an outside pen and hadn't figured out where the shelter was yet. They get so wet that they just get bogged down in this old clay mud and get stuck there. I hope all the birds I have out now have figured out where to go. I have one pen where they haven't all figured out a ramp but they have shelter under the house so they aren't forced to stand outside. I put feed going up the ramp and even hooked up a light to attract them but about 3 of them didn't figure it out.
I have someone coming today to buy a pair of birds. Unfortunately I have the rooster in one pen and the pullet in another. And they are both in with several other birds. I am NOT looking forward to chasing birds around in this cold and mud. but that is two less mouths to feed.

@Prairie Fleur , dad always said one dog behaves two dogs get in trouble. I had a young ***** that would escape from the fenced yard in town. The last time she did that she took her brother with her and he never came back. The humane society called and told us he got pancaked about a mile away from home. I rehomed her and within two months both her mother and she were dead from cancer. I suspect a neighbor who did not like the barking, but that is another story.

Hi everyone! The dogs came home yesterday afternoon covered in dirt and so Extraordinarily pleased with themselves I was a little nonplussed. London was positively Beaming!! I've never seen him grin like that before. Willow was just pumped as well. They both looked like they'd been digging and gotten sprayed with dirt by the other one. Willow went int with the goats again and London is happily keeping watch over the barnyard. I'm extremely curious where they went and what they did. We're considering getting a tracker on Willows collar and see if we can't chase them home the next time they run off.
Still no kids so I must have not seen the breeding that actually took. Guess we'll keep a close watch on her and roll with it. She's happy and eating so she's obviously not due yet.

These are my GP's The top one is Cherrie( She came from Cherryville, KS). The bottom one is Garland (He came from Garland, KS). Cherrie is only a year an a half old. Garland is four. Cherrie is the largest GP I have ever had. She is very solid, and if she hits your leg, when she wags her tail, its like being hit with a billy-club. I don't know which end of her, would be the most dangerous, to a predator! LOL
