Ok, today is Day 10 for my eggs and I candled. Some of them have obvious development and then others I can see the faint line of the air cell and nothing else. Does that mean that they're not developing? Of course, I can't see Anything on my BCM egg that I stuck in.

3 and 4 are developing for sure (you can see the veins on 4). The others are iffy, but I'm paranoid about killing a developing egg, so unless they smell, I check again in a few more days. You should see more darkness in there by now, though.

I had a couple of those mottled looking eggs and they say that look is from bacteria even though I cleaned and Tek Trolled them. I had one rotten egg out of 51 and it had started to develop and quit, then just went to nasty town. Still, we couldn't smell that sucker until we opened it -- gross! You wouldn't want one of those going bang in the incubator but it's just the risk we take. From my experience you could leave those yoke eggs in, or not, since mine caused no harm, but the ones with the bacteria tend to spread it to others. I started out with one and ended up with about 5 or 6. I should say, it looked like it spread, I'm no scientist, plus I wasn't using my turner so turning by hand probably spread it.

I have to get going here, they are implanting a heart monitor that can stay in up to 3 years. It's a very minor thing but it will be good to have so we can figure out if there is anything going on with it. My aunt died at 53 with these exact symptoms, except she actually passed out while I just lay down quickly when I feel like I'm going to. I would have made a great Victorian. With the hand to the forehead everytime DH said something I didn't like, I could just faint away. Ha! Just kidding.

Danz, I know it's tough not to take on your friend's troubles, but the thing is your body is just as fragile as hers and the two of you need to tell those kids if they can't even make the wedding happen, then they certainly don't need to be married. I'm a tough old f*&t. I had to plan and pay for my own and it didn't kill me to hear it. My mother told me "Give me the time and place and I'll be there, otherwise don't make me think about it." Hurt at the time but reality was she wasn't well enough to handle it and I was an awful kid. Also, I don't like to see you being taken advantage of and those kids need a reality check. You want me to call them for you guys?

tatinatimom, LOL! Thanks for the vote of confidence, I think we're on the right track!

DebD I,m thinking the little room is to store feed. In that case the metal floor was a mice deterent, not that a mice wouldn,t just go thru the wire. Danz you can move in next to me I always want somebody there for my projects, even if they just add a different perspective. I would probably not put myself out to do the wiring if it is not to be appreciated. You couldn,t make some people happy if you hung them with a new rope!

Thanks Deerfield and Sharol!!! I'll leave them for another day or two and then take some of the clears out. Some of them light up the room and there's just the slightly darker shadow of the yolk or whatever it is.
Should I take the mottled looking one out? I think I only have one or maybe two like that. I have a turner so I don't think its spread too badly yet. I Don't want an explosion either!!!

It looks like I have a broody hen now too! :celebrate :weee :celebrate One of my BCMs has been sleeping in the nest boxes. Yesterday when I gethered eggs she was in there. She Ruffled her feathers at me and kind of growled when I took the eggs but she didn't peck. Later I took out a wooden egg and gave her that to sit on and she's still there this morning. Do I need to see if she's for sure gone broody or should I give her some eggs? I've been wanting a broody to hatch out some chicks for me!

Well congrats on the broody if that's what you're wanting. I hate it when any of my laying flock goes broody because they're just there for laying eggs for us & my egg customers. I sure don't need them sitting in a nest in the way.

Josie, it's nice to see you drop in once in awhile. I saw a pic of your little one the other day & boy is she getting big! Yeah we're having warmer than usual temps right now for this time of year. I hate to see that & we need rain bad.

Danz I agree with some of the others, I would ask the parents what they would prefer & then go with that on the gift. It's really nice of you to want to do that wiring for them but you have so many things you need to be doing on your own building.

I think she's still thinking about it, not sure if she wants to commit or not. :) I hope she goes for it. We don't sell the eggs; they're just for us and we're getting Way more than we can use. Part of the reason I got BCMs was so tha I'd hopefully get a broody now and then. I was just telling DH last night that I sure wished I'd have a broody hen to raise some chicks!

I'm thinking 3 and 4 are developing although number 4 might have stopped. If it develops a solid red ring at the air sac it has died. The others look blank. Give it a few more days. You'll surely smell an egg or it will seep a little before it bursts.

The problem with helping other people with projects is getting them to come help me in return!!! Plus I am so picky about how things are done they would hate me. I end up spending more time doing things myself because it takes too long to explain what to do to someone else.

I'd give her a few more days before I chance eggs under her.

Deerfield good luck with your procedure. My prayers are with you.

Today has been very busy but very profitable. I made $280 off my first customer and $250 off my second one. Plus I have fewer chicks to feed. Still way too many but fewer anyway. I wish I could do this one day a week. I would be very happy.
